I do find that some people become better versions of themselves once they're married. What the other person is offering/ bringing to the table rounds them out, balances them, and helps them become a better individual. Is that what you mean? Something like that?
Marriage is not for the faint of heart, that's for sure but, there are some marriages that run smoother than others. I'm willing to put in work, or row that oar as you say but I guess we'll see if it's in the cards.

I would not marry me because:
~I am selfish...like eating the last piece of something without asking if you want it selfish (LOL)
~I change my mind every five minutes and don't see a problem with it
~I love my dogs more than I love most people and that includes my Leo (sorry babe)
~I'm stubborn and I like to be right...99.9% of the time
~I'm shallow (main reason why I don't have nor want children)
And I'm sure there's more LOL!
Now by no means am I saying I'm a terrible person...but at this point of my life I come before anyone else...including family. Most of my life was catering to others and now my selfishness is the result. Would I want to marry someone as selfish as I am? HELL NO! I don't budge. There is no compromise so that would cause strain.

I've been telling her for years not to give into the pressure of what others expect, or what others seem to have. I honestly think she only wants it because all of her close friends are married.

No... that's my mom too lol. She is constantly asking me, "Candi, do you think I'll get married someday?" And my answers become less of a yes and more of a no. She either justifies the end of her relationships with, "I just couldn't see myself marrying him" or that she just doesn't think she needs to get married. And honestly, I believe her. She's have a couple of really long term relationships (compared to when I was much younger) so she isn't recycling men. I think my mother she doesn't want to tie herself down to someone she can't imagine living with. She is becoming more aware that marriage isn't something she has to chase after like other women. When my mother got married, he told her she should have considered marrying her then boyfriend. She knew she didn't want to (neither did I want her to, either). My mother has always been fiercely independent, but romantic as well. She wants someone who can wine and dine her as well as respect her space.
I don't know if my mother will ever get married, but she's happy, and that's all I care about. I still think I adopted a lot of my views from her (subconsciously, probably), though.

I don't know... I have seen several pictures, and I can believe that she used a fake bump. I mean, that doesn't mean she isn't pregnant. But I don't think she is nearly as far along as she was supposed to be on VMAs. I mean, that was a good 4 or 5 months pregnant right there. If you're going to suddenly appear belly-less a week later, you are obviously not 4 or 5 months along. I suppose my thing is, she didn't need to use a fake belly. She could have easily announced she was pregnant without it and the whole world would have been at her feet regardless.

Jesus, the thought of being a 24/7 homemaker gives me hives! Don't get me wrong, stay at home moms and homemakers get my utmost respect but, it's just not for me.

Ugh, I hate 'Run The World.' Beyonce can be great, but I thought that song was terrible. I might be a little biased though because she used a sample of a song that I absolutely love, and it seems like she killed it (not in the good way).
Also, I agree that love should never be destroyed over money. However, you risk that by having your parents (or sometimes spouse) as your manager. I mean, imagine having your dad run everything, right down to the bone? It'd probably piss me off, too lol.
The lyrics are so kiddie. Same with "1+1". You would think that someone with her talent and experience at this stage in the game would produce songs with more depth. Luckily however, she makes up for it with the rest of the songs on the album like "Miss You", "I Care", "Party", "Love On Top", "I was Here", and "Start Over". They moreso showcase her growth and diversity.
I just think that she's so much better than some of the stuff that she's still putting out. Her Glastonbury performance was absolutely superb, and her covers of Prince, Kings of Leon, and Annie Lennox were more than on point. She owned that shit. Unfortunately, I haven't heard her album minus two or three songs, and even more unfortunate, I wasn't as impressed. I agree that when she performs, she seriously gets into it. But her music hasn't been up to par at all, and to be frank, I'm kind of tired of her. I think this pregnancy is kind of a blessing in disguise (minus being a blessing in general), because she can really take time for herself now, and as you said, possibly re-invent.
Marriage is hard. I think people forget to mention that when talking about marriage in general. Honestly, I think people need to stop suggesting it all together. I mean, marriage doesn't have to stop, but if a couple is together for like 3 years, I don't think marriage should be shoved down their throats until they actually take the plunge. That should be their decision only.
I know my family, especially my brother, is going to get on me if I happen to be with a guy for a long time. This is why I often keep my relationships a secret. I like them to be my own and I don't like people meddling/making suggestions/doing whatever they can to "better" it. I learn from experience and I go with the flow. If marriage is in the cards for me, that is for me and my boy to decide. Not my family.
This is me sort of saying that society holds onto the idea of a wonderful union in a death grip. We have to remember that this is 2011, almost 2012, and we are no longer in the 1950s. Women are now working longer and into older age and are starting families later. Settling down is becoming something that occurs later in age too. I think the more we accept the changing dynamics of relationships in EVERY aspect, we can finally tackle marriage and accept that it shouldn't be a norm, but rather an option.
