i wrote this paper for a scholarship, and it turns out the original topic required had nothing to do with my paper LOL so i thought i might as well put it somewhere

PEACE

What is peace? Some may think of it as uncertain. Others may play at the thought. "Impossible-as long as man lives", they think to themselves. But this is simply false.

If we were to remove all doubt, and look around, we would see. That peace is already with us- it surrounds us everyday of our lives. Now that is not to say that we are free from the everyday problems we must face. But when we wake up and get out of bed in the morning, do we seek to take what is not ours, and harm others to solve our problems? Just the opposite. In fact, we as a society condemn and look down upon those who commit such acts.

So Why is it any different for a leader of a Nation? Why are governments free from the laws of society? Before we can answer such questions, we must explore why some think the subject of peace is uncertain or impossible.

It is because we, as a society, have been falsely mislead to believe that war is a subject that is deemed inevitable, and even has the capability of being justified.

When we come to understand this, it is not so much of the who, or the why, but the how, that is of importance. How could a civilization be opposed to war, but allow it at the same time?

The answer lies not within those who are allowed, but within those who oppose. In order to understand those who oppose, perhaps we should compare it to a solemn scenario:

A mother sits as she observes her child playing with another on a playground. She sees that her child has taken something that is not his from another child. The mother, because she knows it to be wrong, feels the need to intervene and stand for what is right. But she hesitates-afraid. Perhaps she is afraid of the thought of others, or maybe it is just that she does not want to upset her child. But for whatever reason, the mother sits idle, and the child's act is overlooked. Subsequently, the child continues to take what is not his from other children, and the only person who can hold the child accountable for his actions-his mother- sits idle, watching time after time taking what is not his, and is saddened by the wrong he does, yet does not intervene.
