About a time I was 24 with shingles lol

Young Shingles

I'm laying here with dormant
chicken pox
exposed
On my backside
Creeping down my front side
With you by my side
I wouldn't even touch me
I wouldn't even love me
I wouldn't even want to see my skin
With contagious oils seeping from my inflammation
We're too new, too young, too not together for this situation/agitation
I feel so high from the prednisone
To be alone
And I'm surprised you still want to be around
I scoot far, far away
On the other side of our blown up
Boudoir
Painfully sticking to the latex mattress
And you know, it's not just
Sex that keeps us here.
I came over for a pick me up,
Not the kind where you might knock me up,
But a few shits and giggles,
A few vinyl recordings,
And to listen to you play a song on a guitar that you've been hoarding
But you begin to reach out
To right where the oils seep out
To right where I thought would gross you out.
And I look up to justify
That you know you're about
To touch me.

Lol well thank you!

Perhaps I'll work on doing that!

You're welcome! :-) It seems ideal for that - has the right flow and wit. Very clever. I love satire.

I had chicken pox later than a lot of people do (I was a teenager) so it was particularly bad. But my best friend had it too and we lived close to each other. Because we couldn't infect each other we hung out at her house enjoying not having to go to school. It made the suffering worthwhile, haha.

Awwww that's so sweet! 🙂

I randomly got shingles at 24, don't know why, haven't been the same since.

Anywho, it happened when I met this amazing guy. But he was also moving away. I thought he wouldn't want to even be near me but he was so sweet. He just asked what he shouldn't do (to avoid getting it) and gave me a sweet, little kiskids and cuddled me. Lol

Ahh, Leos. Lol

Did you ever have chickenpox as a kid? That increases the chances you'll get shingles as an adult, but only if your immune system is challenged, so were you going through more stress than usual when you got it, emotionally or with your health?

That's very sweet with what the Leo guy did. 🙂

It's a nice send up of romantic poetry, based on reality, which makes it even better!

Yeah, I was quite stressed lol

But I didn't feel so. It was weird.

I was working 70 hrs a week and really stressed about him moving. But I also was unknowingly taking caffeine pills which effed up my anxiety. And I didn't know I had anxiety. Lol my face went numb and everything. They thought I had MS. It was awesome.

Ah, okay, yes, your stress level sounds like it was sky high. Sometimes people don't realize it at the time because they're doing so much that it's all a blur. So it's good that your body reacted somehow, as unpleasant as it was, to be an alert.

True that usually shingles happen to elderly people, but I've heard of it in younger folks who were quite stressed and/or ill. Hopefully you won't get them again!

Lol funny story.. So you're supposed to go within 72 hrs of getting shingles..

I thought I was just having an allergic reaction to the air mattress we were sleeping on lol I kept getting stuck to it. So I thought it was just hives. I was taking benadryl lol I finally went to the dr and they lifted up the back of blouse and were like... Ummm nope, that's shingles. Lol

Wow, yes, I can see why you didn't know what you had at first. Unexpected! Good that you didn't go even longer!

My dad had shingles about a decade ago, in his 60s, and he suffered a lot. The topical stuff to control the itching barely worked for him.

Oh wow! 😢 sorry to hear that! I heard from most people it was supposed to be miserable. I don't remember having a topical cream. Just prednisone...And let me tell ya.. Once I took that, I felt so fabulous! Lol I ended up being very productive.
