Just ask him directly if he still wants to be friends or not. If not, which sounds likely, then it's fine but it would great for him to stop making your group hangouts awkward since you guys have the same friends.

He just doesn't want to have to see someone he used to fuck on the side when he's kicking it with friends. Don't take it personally. I'm sure it also has to do with his gf and future kiddo. Its just how it is.

This is why you can't get involved with someone in the friends circle cause when it goes south everyone is gonna have to chose sides.

You never really had very much of anything in regards to a relationship and he is taking up way too much space in your mind. Far more than what is warranted.

He could be finding you a bit creepy and deliberately not wanting to encourage you in any way.
