Posted by whatthecrabThat's a really insightful and great thing to say. Kind of like Enstein's quote that was mentioned earlier today, "Don't judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree." or something like that. This was just a for fun topic, but I guess everyone is a genius in their own way.
How do you measure smart or intelligent? By academic track records, common sense, insight and reasoning or analytical skills? Etc.
I don't think smart is synonymous with intelligence. To me good performance of learnt skills = smart. It means one uses the resources available to them to their fullest extend. Does that make them intelligent? No. They have merely practiced and perfected a skill. It's like teaching a child how to do dishes. You offer them the right tools and instructions. That's all there is to being smart. Smart is an act and the willingness to learn and apply information. That's why you can BE it.
Intelligence is insight, wisdom, retrospect, reasoning etc. You got to HAVE it. It can not be learnt by practicing. Only gained from spiritual "awakenings". Someone highly intelligent can be very dumb by not using their capacity or they could lack smart skills in general. That's how there are a lot of lazy, yet intelligent people.
Even intelligence can be dissected: general, mental, emotional, social and so on.
Which sign has what most, I don't know. The two kind of intersect. It's equal parts genetics and enviromental(available resources). Life experiences and how one applies learnt skills.
The question is very subjective as well. My intellectual needs could be entirely different from yours or anyone else's in this thread. It depends on what phase of life we're going through and what we need more in the moment.

Da Vinci is a Taurus, considering info from Astrotheme site (i believe its one of, if not the most, relevant astro site which provides this type of data). There's a calendar time difference that recalculate all dates of births of people born before calendar reform that happened at the end of 16th century (1582), adding 10 or less days to previous recorded date of birth. Hence, Leonardo's adequate date of birth would be 23rd/24th of April. There are many other examples as well (Tycho Brahe, Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, etc).

I don't think the rising should be counted though.
Knowing how many lists i have searched in this and similar topics, some patterns are deff there, present....and probably the most notable one is that Taurus usually pops out at the first place, or high positioned. I would also include Aquarius and maybe Pisces, Cancer or Virgo, as signs which are frequently high rated in those lists.
So, given the amount of cultivated lists, people, and examination of various fields, i would say - The Smartest Zodiac Signs is: Taurus (ofc, it's crazy to generalize, that's absurd....this is more fun than some serious study, cause the subject at the first place, is esoteric not empirically verified)

I think Leos can oftentimes come across very intelligent due to their confidence alone (not to say they can't also actually be intelligent), but they really just sound like they know what they are talking about even when they don't. This is probably why they are also such good leaders.
I find a lot of Scorpios to be very intelligent as well. They can pretty much figure out how to do/build/explain just about anything.

I completely agree with Virgo. As for Aquarius, the ones I know aren't exactly the brightest crayons, but they are very studious and scholarly. For example, my cousin is always studying, finishing up her homework as soon as she gets home, gpa is 4.5, honor roll... but there are things that are common knowledge that she doesn't know, which is surprising. Quite gullible too. It always depends on the person, of course.

earth/earth dominant get knowledge/intelligence by USEFULNESS and RESOURCEFULNESS. /basic survival skills.

if people like her would be in a post apocalyptic world, her knowledge and skills are extremely useful.
