To let go or stay hopeful

I need a bit of advice. My cancer broke up with me with no good explanation. Just to sum it up, he tells me that he hasn't love anyone so hard ever in his life. The last 5 months I went through a very bad place in life. I lost everything from my job to my place etc and decided to move away to start a new opportunity. Well it didn't go according to plan and I was super stressed out and depressed. So he was upset that I move but he did not address it. I knew something was not right and I had to force that out of him. So anyways I move back bc he felt that it would restore us to a better place. So once I move back he starts acting different and saying that he is a distraction and I need someone better than him. And he feels bad that he couldn't help me financially like he wanted to. So he breaks up with me and we don't talk for a few days but then he comes back and says he needs me in his life and he doesn't want to lost me so we work things out. A week later he breaks up with me and says he wants to be friends. I told him I can't be friends with someone I'm deeply in love with. So he pursues me that we can be friends for now. So the next day I text him to see how is day going and he gave me a rush response. So I ask him what is wrong with him and he replies with it takes 21 days to break a habit. That hurt my feelings so I told him that I won't reach out to him anymore and haven't talk to him since. I'm so confused on why the change of heart. Should I just let him go all together?
