Why not just say you're hurt, angry, upset, etc and leave it at that?

As a person who is also heart who is heart broken, I empathize with you greatly OP. However, please understand that not everyone deals with loss the same way. Losing someone you love can be devastating, especially if you were once married.

Some people can't heal with a constant reminder of their loss present in their lives. Some have survived for a long time by cutting all ties and moving on. It is what works for them. If you care about that person, how could you want to deny (or decry) them their means of self-healing? Further, just because you don't know whether or not they are suffering doesn't mean they aren't.
