I have a fabulous one! Pickmepickme! Glass of warm water with half a lemon squeeze first thing every morning.... I GUARANTEE results, but if acid wear is a concern use a straw and rinse with water only.
I just started last week, with smaller portions at meal times and I only eat while its daylight... Pants I bought a month ago are loose already, cotton not stretch mind. Feelin goooood.

Been counting calories for 2 weeks- only lost 1 pound so far. I run every other day and I try to fit in zumba on wii when I can.

If you're consistent with the exercise, at least 20 - 30 min of cardio, the weight is coming off.

That's where it's at, and you don't have to be quite as militant with what you eat.

For me, anyway, I should say.

Now you've made me contemplate my own bikini-- eh, prolly wouldn't hurt to dust off the old treadmill. 😄

@wagtail

If you can wakeup and drink warm lemon water, you have my respect.

Yick.

lol. My friend has been on this crazy health kick. she is losing like 4-5 pounds per week. But she is gluten free, carb free, drinks lemon water and wheat grass tonics and all kinds of crazy shit.
I admire her, but I can't do all that, because I don't want to blow up like a balloon when I finally eat a piece of bread. lol. I have been trying to sub a smoothie for 1 meal a day.
I'm going to the beach with the scorp and his whole family on june 1, so I need to be ready. No more excuses!

The best way I know to shed pounds fast is to count calorie. The super 80's diet! haha
What ever weight you want to be you times that by 10. Then you divide it by 6. You eat 6 small meals never after 8pm! So lets say you want to be 115lbs times 10=1150 divided by 6=192. So you eat only 192 calories per meal. I combine that with lots of water and a bit on exercise, lost 12 pounds in 2 months once! Just depends on what your eating. I do tons of veggies and not very many carbs🙂

Lift weights! This will rev up the metabolism big time. I have a pair of 8 pound dumbbells that I do squats and workout with. Start with 2-3 pound weights and work your way up. I started with soup cans. LOL.

I have a Turbo Sculpt video that I really I love. It's only about 40 minutes long. Do it 3 times a week and some light jogging every other day. It melts off. 🙂

Proteins keep you fuller for a longer period. If you want to snack then go for a protein.

The Danon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt is soooo good. I eat it for breakfast. Tons of protein. 🙂

This should do the trick. Cardio's good for the heart, but pretty useless for shrinking the waist.

I don't really need to lose weight since I already lost quite a bit around december (weird but true 😛 ) but i would like to get a bit more muscle. When the weather gets a bit nicer I think I will try cycling to school (25km) and will take up dancing again. Or martial arts, or both. 😄

Cardio isn't that good for muscle gain. You'd have to cycle and dance *a lot* for it to make a difference. Not that there's anything wrong with those things. Still, I'd recommend heavy lifting if it's muscle that you want.

Thanks for the suggestion. Thing is, I am actually vehemently against working out in a sweaty room with other people. I would never do cardio because of that. I prefer being out in all weather.
Right now I am doing 70 km a week on my bike, if I went to university on it, that would increase to +250km a week @20-25kph. Should be enough to burn some fat, but not to increase upper body strength.

The kind of dancing I did was modern jazz/jazz ballet. It involves a lot of jumping, balance and flexibility. The kind of stretching you do for it comes close to yoga. 😛
Last time I did it 2-3 times a week I could even walk on my hands and had a muscular stomach and back after 4 months. Then school got in the way and I had to stop entirely. I gained almost 10 kilo's in one month after that.
I was bordering on underweight though. 72 KG for a 195 body is not enough.

Strength != muscle volume. What if you do dancing and choose a partner who's really heavy? :-P

Anyway, the last time I spoke about these things with a Cap (and a Tiger one, actually), I got the impression it wasn't that well received :-) Not that it was received negatively. Just in one ear, out the other :-) The weight shouldn't matter and you can get great muscle definition with that kind of exercising + being particular about diet.

That's what technique is for. 😉 Even a 45kg girl cannot be lifted if both don't know what they're doing. Or it just hurts her.
But yeah, I believe Chinese Tigers are described as 'will listen to you with their full sincere attention... and then do exactly as they please' 😛

A healthy diet and enough excercise has been enough for me in the past. Just make sure you slow down and listen to your body from time to time. Eat slow so your body has time to react and tell you you've had enough.

I have this feeling that Tiger Caps will listen to you and halfway through they're already thinking about something else...and then do as they please :-) But they'll smile and thank for the advice so that they don't seem rude! :-)

I don't mind though. The one I'm thinking about whilst typing this is so adorable that he's allowed to not listen to me.

i've been with sports all through growing up, some varsity, some outside of school... gymnastics, horseback riding, running, biking, soccer, womens crew, weight lifting, yoga. i've always been avid with all of this. until kinda recently. i dont work out as much lately, though i know i need to get back into it. but here's the thing... i'm more "fit" and slender now than ever. my friends have all been noticing and i step on the scale every day... i've dropped a few lbs in the last month.

it's all diet. any of my guy friends who are physique conscious have all said the same. my diet has changed in the last month, hence me losing the weight. honestly i changed my diet more for health reasons and general energy level for my days at work. the slimming down and looking more cut has been just a nice perk. though it is making me nervous. it actually freaks me out dropping too far below 115 and i'm now under 110. 😕 i'm not unhealthy underweight, but i dont see myself changing my diet anytime soon as it's now suiting my overall health. so maybe i'll fall into a weight bracket that i should be in—

at any rate... here are the changes i made:

1. i dont drink coffee anymore. dont even miss it. my energy level is perfectly sustained through the day. i sleep well through the night and i wont say i wake up refreshed lol but i def dont wake up exhausted! 😛 and after 5 or 10 minutes i'm hustling.

2. i've added much more fiber to my diet... every morning i start with an all fruit smoothie (all frozen berries: raz, blue, straw), with a bit of protein powder, 2 tbsp of ground flaxseed, almond milk. dark leafy greens, edamame for snacks, maybe fiber one when im running, whole/multigrain crackers, brown rice, quinoa, artichoke hearts

3. chicken or fish

4. try not to eat later than 8pm

5. drink lots of water

really... it hasnt taken 4 weeks to drop 5 lbs. it's been more like 2. maybe it's just that im so wrapped up in things going on, but at this point i'm eating to live. i'm not concerned with comfort or junk food, so changing my diet just happened. it hasnt taken a lot of will power. fresh healthy food tastes amazing anyways when you find good recipes. and i'm not trying to advocate NOT working out. i'm just saying, you can slim down on diet alone... easy. easier in fact.

I'm not a cap but I saw your egg breakfast recipe and just want I let you know you can only have 6 eggs in a week.

Eat a balance diet. Lean meat, fresh veggies and low carb if you must have carbs try brown rice or while meal pasta.

Don't forget low fat diary for calcium.

And exercise a lot! Something that really make you sweat like cardio / aerobics. Good luck!!

Good to know, thanks!

As someone who lost a lot of weight after gaining a lot (A thyroid immune disease, yeah. Not because I was eating non stop) it's all about eating well and exercising.

My plate is 75% vegetables, 25% proteins and 25% carb.
The more color in your plate, the better!
Always eat whole grain, always eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

I always eat either turkey, chicken or extra lean red meat.

I like to make salad with diced cucumbers, cooked quinoa, shredded carrots, bits of goat cheese and that roasted tomatoes Kraft vinaigrette.

I cheat, once in a while, because if you don't, you go crazy thinking about that cupcake. But once a week only.

Oh and take a multivitamin everyday. It helps!

Good lord, threads like this make my brain hurt. So many misconceptions and so much misinformation.

Diet is important, but exercise is the biggest key here, obviously.

Do not go by distance when it comes to cardio. I saw several answers indicating distance vs time.

TIME is what's important. Your body starts to burn certain fuel stores as you exercise- carbs first, then fat stores. 30 minutes of cardio is for healthful benefits. 40 minutes is the minimum but 60 + is ideal for cardio if you want fat loss. DAILY.

Run Monday, Cycling Tuesday. Swim Wednesday, Run Thursday, etc. Anything that gets your heart going consistently. You want your body going for those fat stores.

Resistance is also important. That needs to be done every other day. Your muscles need that day off to recover so they can heal for the next work out. Gains in muscle mass increase metabolism and in turn, your body works more efficiently in how it processes what you eat.

And all these stupid ass diets- common sense, people. Moderation. Carbs are not bad. You need them, especially if working out. Moderation is the biggest thing here. Have carbs, but you better let fruits and veggies be a larger portion, and add some protein in there.

Also, keep in mind that when people throw their stupid diets at you, swearing that they work- everyone is different. Everyone has different body types. There are equations in place to help better figure what your specific caloric intake should be in regard to your situation and the weight you want to lose.

Unless you eat like shit, I wouldn't worry so much about your diet if its already pretty good. If you want to cut down on carbs a tad, so be it. Just eat healthy, and eat smart. The current average diet is lacking in fruits and veggies. If you don't get enough of those, increase them. Portion sizes are ridiculous and you can always halve them in regard to carbs.

Freaking a it drives me crazy when people's first response is "CUT OUT CARBS!!" Yeeahno.

This is your problem right here. Not enough cardio. Stop counting calories and start running more. This is why you aren't getting the results that you want.

Btw, 2 lbs a week is the healthy way to go about it.

And get on it NOW. It takes 6-8 weeks to physically see results. You're dragging it. :p

Poor Capgirl, everyone tugging her to different directions :-)

Here: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/the-fundamentals-of-fat-loss-diets-part-1.html<BR>
Lyle McDonald is my definitive source when it comes to fat loss.

The ACSM is mine, which is more legit than this guy, tbh.

Regardless, fact is that you need a caloric deficit to lose fat. There's just no way around it. You can do it with eating less or exercising more. The first one is easier and faster, a combination of both is better. Also, it's good to eat enough protein so that you don't start losing muscle, and the brain needs essential fatty acids.

duh

I have a degree in this.

I was mostly addressing some of these ridiculous diets people were referring to. The extremes are kinda bullshit.

Btw, the average American gets more than enough protein in their diet. Losing muscle mass isn't likely to happen.

gotta bump this up so I remember to read all the updates! I am needin ALL these tips. My freaking 38 year old metabolism is bringing me down, but NOT without a fight!!

I hear ya.
I am switching gears because I ordered the Insanity workouts.
I am also going to do the diet plan.

I was running every other day, doing the Biggest Loser Power Sculpt on the day off, eating 1200 calories a day, I cut out wheat products, but haven't lost anything.

According to the calorie formula included with the plan, I should be getting at least 1400 calories a day, even if I was sedentary. Adding the workouts gives me 1700 calories a day.

I have been so irritable lately. Seriously, yesterday I had a coffee, a protein bar, a cup of fruit, a salad, and 4 bottles of water during the day at work. That was almost 600 calories right there.

They suggest dividing your calories and eating 5 meals a day, so I'm gonna start doing that now.

Really, I'm not obese, I just put on a little weight around the middle since quitting smoking which has sent me into panic mode. It came on so fast! *sigh* I hate pushing 40. lol.
