If they are one of the worshipers or one of the obsessed and I am not interested, I ignore them. I find it is the only way to be rid of them.
I often walk past people without saying hello. Those people I am not ignoring, I just get lost in my own thoughts. I have actually walked past people I am looking for. (shrugs)

I find that I ingnore people in all of the above situations, but mostly when I'm simply trying to avoid an awkward situation. Wrong place wrong time kind of deal.
