As one of the posters from imgur pointed out:

"If Romania had the population of USA and we kept the percentage protesting to the total population, this would be 9.32 million people."

...if U.S. would follow this example - you might get close to a victory of your own. You guys sure seem to need this as well - right now... ?

The vampire myth is not that far from reality. In Romania - we call them Politicians... since they've been sucking the blood of this country for more than 2 decades... -_-

If you don't fight back and turn a blind eye, that's like saying - that you're ok with what's going on... That's what encourages abuse. And when it comes to political corruption - it takes a large crowd to make a point (small groups are easy to push aside and ignored). Tho, I haven't seen a crowd so large since the revolution from '89 when Romanians brought down the old government. We had many similar protests up to this point, but those were formed of a smaller group (around 100.000 max) and maybe that's why - they didn't prove to be so efficient...

Forgive my ignorance but I haven't been following this.

What exactly is everyone protesting?
Here's a short article which covers more points in depth:

http://time.com/4660860/romania-protests-corruption-problem/

Short story: abuse of political power - meant to favor the officials...

"The country's ruling coalition made a decree — or executive order — on Jan. 31 to decriminalize abuse in office by officials, if the sums involved were less than around $ 48,500. Ordered without any input from parliament, the decree would have stopped all investigations for pending corruption offenses, freed officials imprisoned for corruption, and blocked further investigations related to those offenses from being brought to justice."
