Oranges is called orange because they're orange in colour and the colour is called orange because it looks like oranges in colour. —
But why are oranges called orange because they're orange in colour and the colour is called orange because they look like oranges in colour?
The earliest uses of the word in English refer to the fruit, and the colour was later named after the fruit. Before the English-speaking world was exposed to the fruit, the colour was referred to as "yellow-red" (geoluread in Old English) or "red-yellow".

Horticulturist here *raises hand
I got lots of useless facts floating around in this head of mine.
I think the fruit came first because people in the european middle ages were not very fancy with color names, most of the early color names come from objects .
Did you guys know that carrots used to be purple?

No. But I do know that carrots were called orange before orange fruit was found because the color is orange.
