I suspect I may have it, I'm extremely moody & impulsive sometimes. I have all the so called Bipolar symptoms, minus hallucinations & other weird stuff. I can explode out of nowhere (provoked ofcourse, I'm not THAT crazy), I feel gorgeous & sexy out of nowhere lol & I can get sad out of nowhere. Other times I'm very social, talkative, funny (my version of 'funny' lol) & a complete rocket...then I'd turn around & be the opposite of all those things.

It could be all a hormonal imbalance though, or maybe my personality & not something as serious as Bipolar because like I said, I don't have the other 'weird' symptoms of the illness (no suicide thoughts, extreme depression or psychosis).

Well hallucinations are not a symptom of Bipolar disorder.

To simplify it in medical terms, Bipolar Disorder is nothing but a big ole pot of imbalanced hormones.

The chemicals in the brain that affect judgment, emotional reactions & impulsivity are usually at an extremely HIGHER than normal level of elevation OR the complete opposite, which is how bipolar disorder comes to fruition.

This is also why a person's mood drastically changes in accord with how often their hormones become unbalanced (in the same way that a woman is her moodiest when she's on her period, which causes a temporary hormone imbalance too)

Depression has been known to either increase or decrease those chemicals in the brain which is why some people are genetically predisposed to mental disorders while others develop them much later in life.

There are different stages & levels to Bipolar disorder. There are extreme cases & mild cases. Just b/c you're not an extreme case doesn't mean that you don't have it.

I'm not trying to convince you that you have it lol just saying that part of the reason people are misdiagnosed or have a stigma about mental illness is b/c they think their symptoms have to be extreme & severe before they consider themselves bipolar, which just is flat out NOT true.

I understand all that & believe me I've researched this topic for a long time & I'm still not convinced. What about the lack of suicidal thoughts? I thought all Bipolar sufferers have that in common & I don't. Thanks God I don't because it must be horrible. I love the elevated happy moods thoug

Ya its normal to think of death and dying. The DSM is a load of bull. Basically it makes symptoms out of normal behaviour, and a disorder becomes one because this behaviour is either too much or too little out of the normal range. Therefore, you are constantly on a balancing scale floating in and out of range. If you go see a shrink on a bad day you could all of sudden be analyzed under a microscope. But on a good day, people aren't complaining then nothing seems wrong.

Led to diagnoses:
The world financial crisis and I was graduating with a degree and couldn't get into a masters program because of lack of funds so i had a nervous breakdown. Anyways, she went over my past and determined this based on my hermit like behaviour versus my outgoing behaviour and say it as cyclical patterns in behaviour. I think I'm just a person of routine with random spurts of boredom and to remedy this boredom I act impulsively.

See that's why I don't take it seriously- being moody is normal just as long as you don't do crazy shit & hear voices. Man, that would freak me out. Otherwise the emotional see-saw is normal imo..it's reacting to stimuli..be it from the outside or just inner stuff. I mean ofcourse I'm going to blow up if a person pisses me off..what, you want me to tapdance? They make this shit up, not everyone is going to be the same & act like 'the majority'. Some of us are just like exposed wire lol, very lively & reactive.

I think most mental disorders are poppycock

Lol

I only get bipolar if i'm with people i hate being with. I get unbalanced and start wanting to do high school fights and want to rip their heads off. There's this demon that wants to slash and tear, but thankfully my husband balances me, calms my soul and mind. I would always be crying and stressing with those types of people, yelling and screaming.

No no no no NO & NO!

Having suicidal thoughts does NOT mean that you are bipolar. However, not having suicidal thoughts does NOT mean that you are bipolar-free either.

In the same way that you are considered a diabetic if your glucose levels are higher than "normal" or "average," the same works for bipolar disorder.

Imagine the average level of hormones in the body should be 80. A person without Bipolar disorder would have a hormone level of 80 or maybe even 90, which explains why EVERYBODY has had a mood swing at some point in the month or in life period.

The difference is that someone with bipolar disorder would have an "average" hormonal imbalance of 120 or more, which explains why they're mood swings are more reoccurring.

Get it? Bipolar disorder works a lot like other medical conditions. When your numbers are higher than they're supposed to be on a continuous basis, in particular if those #'s deal with the brain, it is to be expected that bipolar people act, think & emotionally function different than someone with a more balanced hormonal level.

Stop putting Bipolar on 1 level. There are different stages to Bipolar disorder, which is why some people who have been diagnosed with it may not have certain symptoms like someone else with it.

I laugh when people say mental illness doesn't exist, but yet agree that High blood pressure & diabetes exist. People who have HBP are much more likely to have heart, lung or circulatory issues. People with diabetes are more likely to have more circulatory, heart, etc. issues. People with bipolar are more likely to be much more moody, impulsive, depressed, etc.

You'd have to agree that imbalanced chemicals in the brain have NO effect on someone in order to believe that Bipolar disorder is "bull"

As with ANYTHING medically speaking, whenever your body is producing way less OR way more than something, it WILL have an effect on the brain AND other parts of the body.

*A person with a vitamin or calcium deficiency might develop Arthritis
*A person whose body has trouble producing a necessary amount of insulin might develop diabetes
*A person whose body produces too little OR too much serotonin or estrogen might develop skin issues OR mood disorders

It's a numbers game. It's nothing personal. It's not like doctors get a kick out of diagnosing people with mental disorders. Bipolar disorder is just a "name" that they attached to someone whose hormonal levels are too high or too low in comparison to the "average" or "necessary."

And the symptoms that come with that "name" are there based on research that is concluding that people with these imbalances tend to have specific things in common (depression, reoccurring anxiety, etc.)

That's it. Why is that so hard for people to believe?! Bipolar disorder IS manageable, sometimes naturally (balancing hormonal levels through exercise or taking vitamins) OR through taking prescribed medicines that are designed to balance those hormones, thus is the reason behind the phrase, "He/she must not have taken their medicine today."
