I am very hands on and just like to get straight onto the job. I have worked as Account Executive for a media company, Secretary for a property developer and am now working as a Personal Assistant, without gaining a professional qualification in order to get any of the jobs. As I am now that bit older I believe with my experience, my interests would be in HR. How likely is it I could go down this route without going back to school? What's your experience if similar to mine? Would you go back to school at 31?

A person should not be afraid to go back to school at any age... Its good to always been learning new things throughout life.

But maybe the OP doesn't want to do that and needs to earn a living?

In an ideal world, yeah it would be great for all of us to stay in school as long ap

Go for the jobs you want, based on your experience you are likely to have a fighting chance.

It's just a lot of companies pick from Linkdn and stuff nowadays and what they see on paper at first glance unfortunately BUT push the experience angle and when you DO get hired start some part time study at the very least to bolster your opportunities in future, while you are also working...?

If you want to move up, you would have to go

back to school in the US-- not because you

aren't able to learn on the job, but because it's

required... at least in the corporate world.

I used to work with AE's in one of the media

companies-- I've seen them get promoted to

Managers on experience alone... you can't buy

that kind of education.

Have you thought about pursuing that again?

HR would use you (up) in an administrative

capacity without the degree-- if you're not

anxious to go to school, sales is an area where

you can still succeed without going back.

This is an excellent idea which I'd love to do! I have also looked at private HR courses which granted are a little pricey but will also give me a feel if it is really the route I'd like to go down, without committing to the years of study and time out of work but also coming out with something which a potential employer may see as a plus to my current work experience.

How does part time "evening studies" sound... No excuses there!!

But libras very rarely like to study for their "ambitions"... They prefer it if it "lands in their lap with very little work on their part" judging from the Libras i know and have met...

Haha! This may be true. At least it could have seemed that way when I was younger but it's now about time and genuine interest for me. I find it very difficult to stay focused and interested in only doing ONE thing day in day out. I need variation throughout my day or i'll crash after a few hours, never mind days-or years. LOL!

Sounds good 😎

I'm not sure what it's like where you are but we have some really good online university options here that are so much cheaper and seem more time balancey...

Even a course that costs say $ 3000 -realistically studying only might take you a mere six months but if you are working stretch it out for a year or even defer part way and take two years while volunteering or something.

Anything you do that looks good in a profile written down will consolidate your potential for employment!

Short answer, no.

I never obtained a college degree, nor do I see the need to obtain one at this point in my life. Everything I know, is via experience. Most of my background experience has been graphic design, and coding. I spent years in that industry, all self-taught. It was never an issue for me to get jobs within that field. But then there was this HUGE influx of people in the industry, and I watched as prices began to plummet heavily with so many vying to add to their portfolio. That was when I decided to "jump ship" so to speak. With absolutely no experience that was "resume" worthy (self employment isn't really good on it), I was placed in a weird situation where I was having to start over. Months down the line, and I got the job I am currently at, which is a Finance Manager by just applying to see where it goes. And I do not regret that decision at all, cause this job has afforded me a very comfortable life.

Then there is my ex-husband, that is an Executive for a globally traded company. He makes a high 6 digit salary, and all he has is a GED.

A piece of paper doesn't have to define you, you just have to keep going for whatever you want in life.
