I'm a fan of handshakes.

I taught my sons how to have a great handshake since they were iddy biddy. We practiced all the time. LOL

I think it shows good manners and respect.

but its just a gesture...its doesnt mean they are actually respectful or have good manners

Historically, handshaking began as a gesture of good will between surviving warriors on the battlefield. They threw down their spears and swords and held hands to prove that they were unarmed, and done fighting.

Probably works the same way as a greeting...a gesture of civility.

Business wise proper handshake creates a first strong impression. It conveys something about your personality and confidence so it's more than just a greeting.??

It delivers a message that a person is of good breeding. Well mannered, has proper etiquette.

I'll give you a personal example.

A few weeks ago I went to lunch with a male coworker (taurus), who is also a friend outside of work. We went to the restaurant where my virgo son works as a server. My son wasn't supposed to be working that day, but unbeknownst to me, he picked up a shift of a coworker and was sitting in the lobby when we arrived....because he got there too early and couldn't start yet.

When we walked in, he seen me. He came over and gave me a hug and then immediately extended his hand to shake my friends hand. They had never met before. Since he had the time to kill, we invited him to eat lunch with us. They talked to each other more than I did...lol.

Later that afternoon at work, my coworker went on and on about how respectful my son was and how it was a pleasure to be able to sit and have lunch with him.

I was so damn proud of that kid 😄

Probably works the same way as a greeting...a gesture of civility.

They aren't being civil if they are squeezing your hand. It feels the opposite of civil. I understand the importance of handshaking in certain situations. Some people take the firm handshaking rule too far.

I agree it's a form of respect. However there is a difference in handshakes..a firm handshake is very real, and the soft touch hand shake is as fake as the fake air kiss. One of these days I'm going to ask for a DO-OVER!

A HAND SHAKE SHOWS THE OTHER THAT YOU HAVE NO WEAPON IN YOUR HAND FUCK NUT.

I'm not sure if it projects confidence, but it does say something to me about you and the type of interaction we are going to have. I just met the new clinical supervisor and her handshake was utter bullsh*t (weak, limp, damp--wtf—?).
