Traffic flows on a single lane if there are no obstructions. Adding multiple lanes slows the flow and adds to congestion because people can't change lanes for shit and slow down to merge instead of speeding up.

Don't you think the problem is caused by the no-changing-lanes policy rather than the addition of more lanes?
