Due to Covid restrictions, I had to scale back my original idea. The benefit will be a a later date but here is what I put together so far:
My son's 20th birthday is in January. I decided to "adopt" 20 18-24 year olds for the year. I have a hall booked for early January. I am going to throw him a party with food and gifts. At the party, each participant will map out needs and goals and we will spend the year working on them. I plan on hooking them up with assistance in finding medical insurance, job training, counseling, mental health, housing and any other needs that arise. There will be monthly meetings and workshops.
My son's counselor turned friend is going to help enroll them in different programs that he can access. There is a local organization that works with the community and they are donating food trays and will help with municipal housing and food stamp applications.
I'm still working on details but this is where we are right now.
