the problem is that 90% of people don't really know what they want.
Most people think they'll find someone to go out a bit then maybe date and that will transform into a magical girlfriend/boyfriend. It's like a vague idea.
In reality, if you go looking for sthg , then you must know what you want.

if you go to a website specifically for marriage encounters, the success rate will be a lot higher because the people there are serious about getting married, ready to do what it takes and make compromises . Doesn't mean it will be a good marriage but nothing can guarantee that anyway.
If you go on a website for sexual encounter, then you'll succeed, especially if you're a gay man or a man looking for prostitutes because there are not a lot of real women on these websites.
If you go looking for the magical unicorn boyfriend/girlfriend/friend you'll end up wasting your time and browsing through all the weirdos.

yes, but it happens slower

It doesn't mean you can't find a boyfriend/girlfriend in online dating but it's a cost vs reward isn't very interesting unless you're lucky

I just look at online dating as an option on the side, or at the least a source of validation.
