Do you enjoy what you do?

I’m currently searching for a new job because I’m fed up with my toxic work environment. I literally can’t take the stress and mental/physical toll it takes on me anymore. I’ve been working in healthcare my entire life, but am considering going in a whole new direction and getting out of the healthcare field altogether. I just don’t have the passion for it anymore and frankly I’m burnt out. I just have no clue on what direction to go in or what I’d be a good fit for. I’m sure it would probably be quite difficult for me being that I don’t have any experience in any other field other than healthcare. Just trying to get a sense of what’s out there and how to go about changing things up. So any advice is also welcome!

I've been reading a lot of your work stress comments on the front page as of late on the sneak tip low key and let me just say there is no way in holy hell nobody should have to put up with the BS from their occupation. People ain't worth it for anybody to get all stressed out. Lord knows I couldn't do it. That shit ain't good for nobody. Stress causes hair loss weight loss (and not weight loss in a healthy way either) amongst a ton of other unhealthy related causes. I would of been cuss some people the hell out without a care in the world if that'll make me feel good about it.

Now that that's out of the way I've done a lot in my prime even served our country for unfortunately only five years. I'm that type that likes to stay quiet about what I do but all I'm gonna tell you at my ripe old age and the condition I'm sadly now in I wish the hell I WOULD work under someone. For a start I don't like nobody telling me what to do giving me orders. I like working in complete solitude working for myself and own businesses. Also I'll say this, I sure as hell wouldn't mind starting my own recycling business because that's the one thing I like doing. Recycling. And I don't even have that much earth placements either. I just care too much about our planet.

I’ve been in healthcare, then changed career to research and teaching. It took me a lot of studying and qualifications to get here and in the end, it doesn’t really matter. It comes a time in any job when things are not as rewarding as they used to be.

If I were in your shoes, I’d look for a receptionist job at hospitals, clinics and private ordinations. Visit some and ask directly. If you don’t have the drive to do something specific, why not start by looking at job adverts in and near your area? Make a generous list with all your skills and experience, re-write your CV. If you find something you like, research the company/ job and present yourself as the ideal candidate. If you get an interview, don’t bring any negativity. If they ask about your last job, just tell them that AI will take over in a couple of years and that you are ready for other -human- challenges. 😃

I’m a CPA, have been in management & accounting ( mostly tax) at companies large & medium sized and also CPA firms.

It took a degree in accounting & passed CPA exams to get licensed in the last couple of years. I wouldn’t say I have a passion for it, but it has always presented a challenge which I need & I enjoy figuring things out. I have mostly been treated well over the years. But it’s a lot of hard work too.

Well I certainly think you have needed to work for a different employer, whether an entire change of industry is needed that is up to you. But, I think there are probably good ones and not good ones. Your situation sounds difficult and can wear down on you. So I hope you at least find a new employer.

lol I do okay, enough to provide the life I live comfortably and provide stability. Which as a dominant Cap is important. I’m a little tired of it now though 🤣🤣 As I’m getting older I’d rather do things like write, draw & paint. Finish the book I stopped writing when I went to the CPA firm. Hopefully I can slow down & do some other kinds of learning/challenging things for me… creative with the analytical brain 🙃

If I ever finish it, yes I’d like to publish it. It’s about a guy whose wealthy father dies & leaves him everything and his journey romantically & otherwise. It’s about 2/3rds of the way done but then I went on this Capricorn journey at the CPA firm & finally getting my CPA license. I had no xtra time… but now I do without a relationship. and i think usually what makes a job environment “toxic” is the people (work relations), lack of team spirit, lack of appreciation, lack of a sense of satisfaction in what we’re doing etc so ask yourself if you’re tired of healthcare or just tired of the people you work with or tired of not being appreciated enough or something etc

if it’s the former, you should perhaps go into a new field. if it’s the latter, just change job but stay in healthcare since you already have the experience.

Where in healthcare do you work?
I work in radiology scheduling. Basically a call center.

Maybe before considering any sudden changes, what are your other options within the healthcare field?

If it's possible, consider part time study of interest while you're still working and then go from there.

Have you considered health informatics?

I actually worked in health informatics for about 7 years and enjoyed it for the most part. I mean the work was tedious at times, but I never had the toxicity I have with my current job.

A little back story just in case it’s relevant….so I used to work in a medical call center years ago back in 2013/2014 and it was the most toxic job I’ve ever had in my life. I swore if I could get out I’d never work in another call center again! I ended up having to have emergency surgery and would be out of work for almost two months recovering. My supervisor at the time told me if I chose to go ahead with the surgery (like I even had a choice) that I may not have a job when I return. They never even once checked up on me while I was out. Thankfully I was able to find another job while I was out of work recovering and my first day back I handed in my resignation letter.

Fast forward to 2018 when I got my current position working for a hospital scheduling radiology procedures. The company was awesome, my coworkers were awesome and management was awesome!! I thought I had died and gone to work heaven literally! Then Covid hit and in 2020 we were all sent to work from home. Been working from home ever since and loved it even more! In 2022 new management took over and everything changed. I now worked for a whole new company and they turned us into a call center. The new management is toxic as hell. They micromanage us more than ever and working in the office was actually so much more pleasant than working from home. All of my previous coworkers I had started with all left. I am the last one of the original employees left. Everyone else is new and they don’t stay long. I never wanted to work for another call center, but yet here I am. I wish I could have found something else sooner so I could be rid of this place. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

You really want to try and develop some kind of skill or trade. Something that can't be taken away, or replaced by upcoming AI.

Other then that and depending on age, maybe do something completely crazy and join law enforcement or the navy/ military.

Funny I actually thought about a career in law enforcement. Well I wanted to be an investigator. Had an opportunity to get my feet wet and go for training right out of college. They sent me to another city to take the exam which I passed and the next step was training. Well I was so naive back then I had no idea I’d be required to use and carry a gun. So I backed out.🤦‍♀️ Kinda wish I hadn’t now.

Can't you work remotely? Or at least find a job where you can. At least that removes the possibility of a toxic workplace (unless your house is toxic 😁)

I do work remotely, but they micromanage you even worse from home. We have timed bathroom breaks. 😬

I'm in the same boat as you. Been in Healthcare my whole life (both animal and human) and I'm Just done with it but I have no idea what else to do cause I don't have any other kind of experience.

You and abc can do food delivery (not Uber eats) some restaurants pay good money and with tip you can do 20+ $ , you are in your own car most of the time, it's a very relaxing job , no boss or other people watching your every move

OR

any other delivery type of jobs, personal driver by example.... Etc, I used to do pizza delivery when I was 17 years old and make 20 $ hour and this was like in frickin 2008!!!

Just my 2 cents.

I don't have a driving license at the moment but deliveries is probably the first thing I'm gonna do once I get my driving license back

I have done Uber eats, grubhub, and I delivered for Amazon. I don't like using my own car. With the miles and the price of gas these days it isn't worth it. If I had an electric car maybe.

What field did you enjoy most? Research sounds interesting to me. I think I am burnt out with healthcare. However, I know I’m gonna have one hell of a time switching to something else entirely given the fact I have zero experience. I’ve always considered something with psychology which is what I have my degree in (which is a useless degree since I never went back to graduate school). Working with animals or children both sound appealing to me. Something in investigation/law enforcement, architectural design or interior decorating all sound interesting to me, but again I have zero experience in so I’d have lots of schooling/training to do and at this late age I just don’t know if it’s feasible.

Working at some stinkin call center and being a representative certainly ain't for introverts. Leave that for the extroverts. I mostly work remotely at the comfort at my home where I can drink and do whatever I please without the hassle of worrying about getting write up. I still get out the house and work whenever necessary but I don't have to do that. I can stay home everyday 24/7 and still get paid just kicking back drinking beer and listen to my smooth jazz records, play my guitar and all. I think that's what you need. But I don't know if you know anything about how to go about starting your own business though.

Yes, I should have left before the new coming took over, but it was a relatively new company and there were not many reviews on them yet. When I look up the company now, that’s all you see are negative reviews and most of them mention how toxic management is. All of my previous coworkers have left the company. Most were pushed out. One lady who was in her sixties had planned on retiring with the company, but was forced to retire early because she couldn’t take it anymore. Another eventually quit because she was pregnant and all the stress was affecting her pregnancy and causing her blood pressure to go way up. The rest followed shortly after. I tried applying with a company several of my coworkers got jobs at, but no such luck. Another of my coworkers who I was really close to as we worked together at a previous job before this one as well…..she went on to start her own business and is doing quite well for herself and is extremely happy. I will definitely be doing my research first though before I start another job!

Logistics management specialist. It’s a stressful field but I would fall asleep if I had a boring job. I thrive in chaos.

I don’t want to do it forever though. I daydream about being a floriculturist or anything more fun and creative.

Wow that does sound stressful. I definitely do NOT thrive in chaos so I will stay away from that field. Lol. Best of luck on following your dreams!

It seems it's the toxic management and culture in your company that's the main problem. Could you find a job in another company instead?

Yes it’s very toxic. I have been looking into other companies as well. I’ll stay in healthcare if I have to….especially if I can find another company that treats their employees better and isn’t so toxic. Though I think I need a change altogether.

I work on a big farm in the horticulture industry. Its a great workplace with lots of verity of things to do. I used to work in construction and I enjoyed it a lot but i was self employed which was too stressfull. The weather is pretty much the only real stress for me now.

Working on a farm sounds like a dream!

See that’s me….I’d love to work in complete solitude!!

Yes working in a call center is definitely not a place for an introvert. Add severe social anxiety to that and that’s me! I need a change and fast! I do my best work I feel when I have peace and quiet without being around people or having people tell me what to do and when to do it.

I’d love to have my own business, but I don’t have a clue about how to get started or what kind of business I’d even like to have. Any pointers?

Do you have any special talents/gifts?

Cupcake making, florist, wedding planner, catering, clothes making, hair cutting, makeup artist, website design, foreign language/sign language, editing, antique things shop, coffee/cafe, selling something, etc..

Anything creative?

I always thought that Scorpios would excel in something like therapist position. Something healing.

What kind of job/career interests you the most?

It can be anything. Just name something like a stewardess for example . Then narrow it down. Maybe you can’t become flight attendant at this age (although not sure) but you can work as a ticket agent at the airport.

That all depends on what you're experienced at. It does seem healthcare or anything that has to do with providing health care to customers or whatever is where it's at for you. But unfortunately I strongly advise against starting your own healthcare business. If you think working for one as an employee is a pain in the rear it'll be twice as painful owning one. Actually that's how I got started. I have years of experience doing what I did working 9-5 as an employee and decided on getting into that business for myself. Of course you'll need a business license to get started. And no it's not a fun in a park either. I deal with clients and it's my duty to satisfy them in anyway possible. And yeah even that can be stressful too at times. But the good thing about it is you have freedom to move around and not be bogged down sitting behind a desk in suit and tie all day long lol.

A private detective? Working at animal shelter or after school program or state foster program? Maybe a tutor at a local school?

Ah yeah, I have no desire to start my own healthcare business. I’ll pass on that one. Lol. I really don’t know what I’d like to do honestly. I’d love maybe something working with animals. Like maybe opening my own doggy daycare or some kind of animal rescue of some sort. I don’t know though. Sounds like it might be risky. To sink a bunch of money into a business and then it not pan out. I’m a worrier and always think the worst. Lol

if you have a background in nursing, and you feel drawn towards working with animals or children, but going back to school for a degree isn’t feasible, maybe being a nanny like someone else said or working in a veterinary clinic as a receptionist or something might be cool. or working in a pharmacy since you already have the medical background.

you apparently don’t need a special degree to become a nanny (they just do a criminal background check on you) and if you’ve been to nursing school, you probably know CPR/first aid already so that’s a huge advantage. i know a girl who used to advertise on Craigslist and find nanny jobs that way.

speaking of healthcare, i would avoid working in nursing homes/senior homes. i heard something recently.

a friend of mine i used to bartend with in my early twenties (a libra) has been working in a nursing home for a few years now and he recently was unjustly accused of misconduct.

an old lady with alzheimer accused him of pushing her when he was only trying to save her from danger.

and what’s shocking is, this lady used to tell everyone at the senior home that my friend was her favorite staff out of all the staff.

but after the incident, this lady with alzheimer told her family and the other staff that my friend “pushed” her. so he was called into question about it and had to go through a brief stressful period where he had to explain to everyone what really happened.

he said things like this are pretty common in nursing homes so you have to have really tough skin to work in one and it’s the reason why they’re always hiring because staff quit often. if you’re looking to be less stressed, i would avoid nursing homes 😅

i actually used to volunteer in one when i was a teen but i was only there to chat for an hour or two with the old ladies/gentlemen and was fortunate that nothing weird happened. 😅
