What’s home?

What’s home? What if you don’t have a place where you feel home, when home is just an idea of a place that has yet to come into existence?

If you care not where you roam, every road will take you home. Or so the saying goes. I guess when there’s nowhere to go but everywhere you might as well just stay on roads and keep on rolling under the stars. But I don't know, and maybe it really doesn’t make a difference in the end.

What makes something a home?

This is such a complicated question & I don’t have one answer for it. Maybe it’s where the heart is. For a long time after my divorce, it was Huntington Beach, where I lived as a kid, where my dad lived til he died. I kept going back every summer even after he died. That surprised me. But there were so many memories, good ones. I think the problem is where I live doesn’t feel like home.. it never did.. well maybe 1/2 way at the most.

But I do have a home here, and when my children are with me it feels like home. Back to the heart. Of course, it feels more like home when there is love. But comfort, a feeling of belonging, that’s where home is. It doesn’t have to be related to a person, but could be.

A place to rest. Peace. Safe environment.

Safe place where you can relax and be myself.

I say these because I have experienced the opposite.

That includes in a bad relationship. I ended up decompressing at night when everyone was asleep. Meaning it cost me time with those I did want to spend time with. My girls.

So for me, home isn't a physical place rather a feeling attached to a place. It can be created anywhere.

The love some of you mention is nice yet. What happens when the loved one is gone or even family is not there? It comes just another hollow place for me. It's why I didn't make buying a house in the past a high priority. Wth would I fill it with?

In hindsight maybe creating the space first would have been the right way instead find the people🤔

You got to create it yourself.

I could easily imagine myself living in Tallinn or St Petersburg (?). Apart from that family is home, and for myself Home is where my butt is ♡. I have a nomadic soul.

Both are interesting cities. St Petersburg though is out of question for the foreseeable future. Which is a pity, I recommend it to everyone at least for its architecture and art.

And it's huge. Tallinn is cute and they are connected by ferries with Copenhagen and Stockholm. Both cities are beautiful. I did the North Sea cruise tour a few years ago...I am in love with that region.

It’s not that far from me. Been there a couple of times. I second your sentiment, they are beautiful cities and well worth a visit. Nice places to live in, too.
