What's with elaborate PromPosals?

What is the purpose of the prom?
It's just a formal dance in the spring for high school Seniors and/or Juniors. It's "magical"....lol!
Never went to mine. I always thought they were overrated and I don't like wearing suits unless it's a comfy one that don't feel tight.
I watch the dvd from mine when I want to laugh. It's me mad drunk and dancing around with no rhytm whatsoever.
I'm just surprised to the lengths these kids go to to ask someone these days.

Have you noticed how more and more kids are going to elaborate lengths to ask someone to the prom?
Here are some examples:
When I was in school (ya, in the dark ages) you saw someone in the hallway. Yo! Wanna go to prom? Sure. Okay then. That was it. Now kids are doing almost the equivilant to a marriage proposal.
I guess this generation will have some good practice for some amazing marriage proposals in the future. lol!
