wow, Stephen King is my ALL-time favourite author & thankfully a HIGHLY prolific one! I believe he holds the title of MOST prolific "horror writer" of all time. For me, a greatly directed and acted film (from book translation) CAN stand on its own merits, where it doesn't have to be the "exact" duplicate with every detail from the book. Especially, when novels, such as King's can be so highly conjested. The closer, the better, of course, but you just know when it "feels" right and holds the authors integrity, talent and imagination intact.
My personal book-to-film favourites thus far, would definately be MISERY, THE SHINING, 1408, Secret Window (novella), Dreamcatcher, The Mist (novella), The Shawshank Redemption (novella), The Green Mile, IT, Cujo, Apt Pupil (novella), Stand By Me.
