I'm going to go see this, as I hear its really good, but I'm debating whether or not I should read the book first. I know that's always the thing to do, but I'm kind of impatient.

Has anyone seen and/or read this?

I read the book 3 months before it came ouy as "Push" which is the origanal name of the book, but I understand the contraversy. The book is full od broken english which can make it difficult to understand but it will help you understand the movie.

Whaat! Precious is Push?? Are you kidding me? I read that book when I was in Junior Highschool!

Wow I can't believe they're turning that into a movie after all this time. It was a sad book. I think it was based on a true story if I remember correctly. I'll have to check that out though. Not sure.

Hell I did not know the book was out that long (smile) My mother introduced me to the book. There was a issue with the name "Push" I don't remember why, it was to come out about 2 months ago but the name was an issue. I am glad it is in the theaters

I hate movies about black people struggling and suffering.

I don't think it has anything to do with being black. The actors just happen to be black. If it were your average movie with an all white cast, no one would be complaining about it. I actually think its a great step forward for black filmmakers, as it sort of steps outside of the box that many black films are placed in.

I have always wanted to see a majority black cast in a movie that isn't a comedy, or based on an old R&B group, or about growing up in South Central, LA. Not that those movies aren't great in their own right, but I think its time that black film took another step forward, instead of being 'typical'

Just my opinion.

Oh I thought Tyler Perry was in on it.

Him and Oprah have a hand in this movie. Not sure if it Is financially or just promoting it. I guess it's financially

Yea its very heavy, but I recommend everyone see it. I think those issues should be addressed, instead of always being a dirty secret that no one wants to talk about.

I thought Mariah was good in her role she was a Social Worker... she looked plan no make-up. I can't see her being to gorgeous to play a part of a social worker....

Monique was good also and I hope Monique wins a oscar for her role.she did very well.

Precious did an awesome job in her role with no acting experience what so ever.

All the actors did a wonderful job. I especially like the island sister I loved her accent 🙂

I am glad I read the book it was so easy to follow the movie.

I did get teary eyed but that was expected.

I hope some parent or child saw it and wants to make a change.

I cant judge this movie too much because I'm not going to see it....but like I said Im sure it will do well...it has done well

Yes you are right you can't judge it.

But how can you say someone is to pretty to play a role because an actress or actor if they are good can play any role. Just because someone is pretty does not mean they don't qualify for a role in a movie.

Who fits a role to play a social worker?

Sometime Dward I wonder do you even think about what you say before you say it. That was just a crazy comment. And very judgemental.

It's interesting that so many people think it's Tyler Perry who directed this when I don't think it rings of him at all. His movies are comedy/dramas usually featuring him in cross dress. This is a straight up drama with no cross dressing though Monique's character could probably pass for a man in drag. It's pretty intense. I wasn't expecting it to be all flowers and lollies, but some things were very shocking to me. I have not read the novel, Push, but tbh after seeing this film I can only imagine that it's probably ten times worse. Maybe one day I will give a read. I managed to make it through reading Sybil after seeing the horrid sequences of the film, so maybe. I definitely recommend this movie. Lee Daniels is an amazing director that can really pull moving, emotional intense, personal and raw performances from his actors.

Yea the most intense scene, imo, is towards the end of the movie in the social workers office when Monique comes in to see Precious and she tells the social worker her side of the story.

I finally saw this movie. This was the strongest portion for me as well.
