Just watched usual suspects for the first time. While the story is meh, this movie main attraction is the narrative aspect, and the fact it's a character narrating. second hand narration can be extremeely immersive but few movies managed to pull it off well enough. Also some stylish 1990s cinematography.
Watched Florida Project for the second time yesterday, it's so great. It's about a young mother & daughter living in Section 8 housing just outside of Disney World. The movie's from the perspective of her daughter. Daughter's a bad lil cussin' and spittin' mofo (like 8) who wanders Orlando getting into mischief with her mom's best friend's son. Mom's a stripper with trashy tattoos. She takes her daughter to hawk perfume and stolen Disney park tickets on the street. One day, daughter and friend's son get ahold of a lighter and burn a neighboring house down. They aren't caught, but best friend bans her son from playing with daughter and ends her friendship with the mom. Mom starts hooking to pay rent. (Willem Defoe plays the stern but benevolent landlord, btw). Best friend throws her craigslist ad with her phone number in her face, so Mom beats her ass. Best friend calls CPS, end of movie, daughter (Moony) is crying because she's being taken from her mom she has so much fun with to live with a new family.
Then watched Buffalo '66 for the first time, starring Christina Ricci and Vincent Gallo. Gallo gets out of jail, ducks into a dance studio to pee, and kidnaps Ricci to play his wife when he goes to see his parents who think he's successful. He assigns Ricci a new name. Gallo starts crying outside of the parents house. He's obviously emotionally and socially stunted as the result of parental neglect and abuse. Ricci plays her part well and starts to fall for him. He sees a woman's picture in his locker at the bowling alley, Gallo says it's his ex. They run into the ex at a restaurant who can't remember his name but remembers he was in her 3rd grade class. Come to find out she was only some crush he had stalked and he had never had a gf, was a virgin, probably never had a friend. End of movie, Ricci and Gallo are happy together.
Now watching Cold Shivers, a Norgwegian short film that I need to rewatch & actually pay attention but I think it's about incest. The best short film that I think I've seen is Basically by Ari Aster.
i really liked this movies, yeah i admit it was wierd and freaky at times but i think its one of those movies in which you have to look beyond the voilence and nudity to actually know what the movie is about, the book was very different to the movie, one
For me it's got to be "300", a historical epic, loosley based on the battle of Thermopylae, possibly the coolest event in human history, in which 300 Spartans(the most kickass culture this world has ever seen)+allies fight against an army of half a millio
