Your opinion on militias?

Are militias unnessary in modern times? Should they be armed with weapons, or are signs with political slogans the only weapons people need to impact modern civilizations?

I don't know about you, but I sleep better at night knowing that Gomer Bundy and his buried school bus full of hunting rifles and shotguns is there to protect me from the gubmint's Reaper drones, M1A2 tanks, and stealth planes.

In this scenario based off of pure fiction, the militia would have to be ready to die firstly. Once that is established, they would need to set up in places the government wouldn’t want to destroy. Places where the government would do more damage to themselves if they started blowing it all up. While also hacking their technology, and taking over as much of it as possible. Also the government needs an army, which they have, but it’s also only a few right worded speeches away from joining the people. Especially once the people they are trying to protect start to die in mass amounts.

That’s obviously just fiction though.

Put vets to work as a standing militia at home. Put them in schools as well. Like Sweden does.

Militias hoarding guns = Not fiction

Your scenario = fiction

There are a lot of ex-military or ex-law enforcement guys out there plus guys who like to dress up and play soldier on the weekend and pretend that deer hunting and a wilderness survival class they took in 2012 makes them "civilian special forces".

They're not.

The NSA and CIA (HAI GUYZ!) have intel on most, if not all domestic armed groups they see a legitimate threat. If and when the time comes, those domestic groups will be taken out in their sleep. The army, navy, air force, or marines will never be used. It will all be black ops.
