My protector Rusty is hosppitalized for the second time in about 6 weeks. Around 6 weeks ago he was neutered and shortly after lost his appetite. I called the vet and he said some dogs get traunmatized after the operation and not eating could by a symptom. He advised I just give him food he liked and it would pass. But rusty just got worse. He is a lab mix he weighed 45 lbs. Soon he was at the vets and now weighed 34 lbs. We went ahead and hospitalized him and he was on antibiotics and an IV. The vet did and xray and blood work but never really gave me a diagnosis. He is back and has been hospitalized now for 3 days, he has had blood work and everything is negative. They have checked for an obstruction, kidneys, diabetes, liver disease...nothing. The vet has no idea whats wrong. I'm afraid he will die if we dont figure out whats wrong. He won't eat but he drinks water by the gallons his white cells are high so vet knows theres an infection. Does anyone have any advice all feedback is appreciated

my unpopular opinion would be to you take care of him yourself. this doesnt mean to give him medicine, but to simply help him while he gets better, and to help him get better, focus on the basics of food, water, walking him around for a good amount of time, and most importantly him knowing his master is with him. do you really think a hospital is the best place for a creature in need of love? i am sorry, but the reality of the matter is that if there is so much corruption and inhumane actions that humans commit against other humans[concerning the medical industry], then you can assume that animals have it much worse with the treatments and medicines they receive.

also, if his fate is to die, then let his time be spent with humans who love him.
