And this is not a judgement on Pisces males. I just wondered about all the excuses they seem to make for not doing things or not being somewhere etc etc

Because sometimes I assume people wouldn't understand or approve the real reasons

Depends on the specific context. To assume that Pisces men always make excuses is incorrect. But sometimes Pisces do not like to take responsibility for their actions, just like the rest of the zodiac.

Pisces men ned down time, like LOTS of down time. No matter how in love they are with someone, they need breaks. I've got a venus/rising in pisces and a human sponge. If i dealt with too many people the day before or the energy was super intense, the next day I'll wake up feeling like someone strapped a 30lb shack of flour to my body. I have to de-toxic all that out of my system like I binge drink the night before. That is what it does to anyone with strong Pisces, 8th, or 12th house placements in their chart.

I have Pisces in my 12th house so that makes sense. I am actually a Capricorn (female) but what you said about needing lots of down time is true of me too..

Like it's already been said, no energy, or just needing space/ solitude.
