"@MMAI- You do seem to love animals, good to see so many animal lovers around. They are a significant
part of my life, both personal and professional, but I don't have all the "critters" like you and CP and
Midnite. I was just curious about your possum prejudice... I'm not exactly on the possum committee!
I have had to deal with them a few times, they aren't exactly gonna win any cute and cuddly award, and
they do carry a horse killing disease".
For as long as I can remember, I've been an animal fanatic. Oh you were asking about the Possums because you've had worries of your horses being subjected to them and wanted to know my reasons too? Maybe I got gangrene from a big bite when I wrestled one to it's death kind of thing? My they are ugly aren't they though! Welcome again. I think I like the way you think. I think!
I love animals too π Just remember that I also love eating them. LOL
The roosters get obnoxious at about 13 weeks old, but 14 weeks old they are jumping on my poor little hens and making them ragged... that's when the most obnoxious of the bunch becomes that year's fried chicken π 4 weeks later, after a little more growth, the remaining obnoxious ones become that year's chicken soup after a trip to the freezer. Normally, only 1 or 2 roosters out of every batch is gentle and decent enough with my hens to pass muster. My hens are sweet, spoiled pets. The little sexual pervert roosters are dinner. π
As for Possums... my rule is anything that eats chickens and gets within 100 yards of my girls dies. The only hesitation is deciding which gun to pull from my arsenal for the job. Used to be my Browning A-5 Sweet Sixteen shotgun... sometimes my bolt action 22 rifle... sometimes my beloved Kimber 1911 "Black Betty"... lately it's been my Glock. If it craves chicken, it dies.click to expand

I'll shoot some targets but I won't kill and I may have to drive about two miles away before you cock your gun and fire. I don't even want to hear it go off it it's pointed at a creature. Skin it and pluck it before I see it and I'll eat it."
When I kill something for food, I use a sharp knife, so sharp I can shave with it (and I test it) and it's immediate and painless. No blood to the brain = no pain for a critter. I could very easily shoot them and do it, but with my sharp knife I can be more certain that a twitch or a sudden movement by the animal won't lead to it suffering for a bit. Besides, if you saw how they are on your little hens at 14 weeks old, you'd want to kill the horny little perverts yourself. Very mean to the hens when they first get their hormones.
If I gotta handle all the meet, you have to do all the weeding in the garden. Preferably... (you guessed it)... nekked.

Bahahaha
Well,
I'm sure from spending time talking to you that you are conscious of their feelings the whole time, I get your feelings on that too by the way they treat the ladies. I myself couldn't bring myself to do it regardless. I guess that's why it takes a man to do it.click to expand

Elusivesoul:
I told you, if you want to try to sort out the kink in my pistol, march on over here and give it a tug. :p
MMAI:
I agree, actually. Usually it does take a guy to kill the animals you are going to eat. That's just how nature wired us. Likewise, in a situation where your kids were ever going hungry and you had no reliable man to do it, you would be a lot less squeamish and get the job done for sure. I've always thought everybody having their job as wired by nature was a good idea. Why fight it? Nature does a whole lot of things in this world better than we ever will. As for the hens... lol they don't like it as rough as the young cockerels give it to them, trust me. LOL If you want a demonstration just let me know :p

Go to the Capricorn Forum and read the thread "Wanted." Start about the 3rd page. The kink in my gun was a hazard of doing business, it's sort of my "Closed for Repair" sign. π
MMAI: That's why I've got the sun screen, geez, I wouldn't let you fry! I'd just let you do a lot of toilsome garden work that I don't wanna do, that's all.click to expand

You're lucky I don't still own my little 2 shot derringer... or I'd post it instead. LOL One thing I do have is lots of guns. So many I haven't even shot some of them... good ones too, not cheapies.click to expand

Oh my gosh that reminds me of how mindless I was.....when I moved into this house, there was so much junk. I found a palm-sized pearl handled silver gun with a protruding pattern all over it. I didn't realize it's value. I gave it to my irresponsible nephew who probably sold it for a 20 sack.click to expand

Posted by cowpuncher
MMAI: that wasn't a protruding pattern. That was an expensive old antique, and some guy who was a hand craftsman in the late 1800s/early 1900s did every bit of that chiseling away at the metal itself with cutting tools and a mallet, by hand. You don't even want me to find out what an old Remington Pattern derringer, original, hand engraved, is worth. Trust me. You'll get all weepy and shit... and I like my water sign girls nekked and smiling, not weepy.
*spank*
NEVER throw out the guns again. bad girl.

The gun....I'm not the bargain bin kind of gal.
Didn't figure you were π
I could find out what one of those would be worth? Mainly, if I were you, call the kid and make sure he doesn't shoot it with modern ammo in it. Those guns were made for black powder cartridges, which produce much less pressure than modern ammo. If he could chamber a modern 38 special cartridge in that gun and try to fire it, it could blow up in his hand. Likewise, it could happily shoot forever with black powder cartridges... the difference in pressure is that much. You have to be careful about what ammo you feed an old antique like that.click to expand

Posted by SillyFilly
Thanks!!! All the info I would ever hope to need! π
I can assure you that I would never be loading ammo by hand, pretty
much can guarantee it!! I'm not that indecisive about these types of things.
So Smith and Wesson it is...
I just read the post about "probably a bored air sign"
