I would've been the one who told him that I wanted to break up, and that I wouldn't be waiting around. If he wanted to keep in touch, I would gladly do that and to have fun on his trip.

I would've started emotionally detaching once he told me about it, and just have fun while we can together. That's just me though.

Yeah. Now that I overthink everything, I definitely should had emotionally detached myself from him. I can see that I made a huge mistake on that part. I could have avoid this pain for myself..
I started to heal myself by doing things I like. It's not that I have the urge to contact him. Not at all. I'd rather not actually. He is on his world trip and he should have fun and enjoy everything that comes on his path. He didn't choose for our relationship, even not for staykng friends with me. So, I was thinking of letting him go completely and stay on distance (like he asked me to do) and to see what happens when he comes back. But now already since Sunday he keeps contacting me again. It's so confusing. He asked me for distance. I stay on distance and I don't contact him. But he keeps contacting me. Why is this?

If I was in his situation, I suppose because he's having a hard time weening himself off as well, see in a few weeks or months how things are. He just left so it may be hrd to quit cold turkey, maybe also half of him doesn't want you to let go either. But like I said, you need to be the one to throw his words back in his face with action. This is what he asked for (even though his actions don't show it ofcourse).. he still asked for it. Stay in touch, if he is.. but dont feel like you have to treat it like you're together. That will just complicate feelings. Know where to draw the line with yourself is what I'm trying to say.
