One could tell white lies and be as innocent as a child. One could tell white lies without even realising it. It's only human.

Perhaps he wants to marry some super-human fantasy. By doing so, he's forcing you to make promises you can't keep. He's setting you up for failure. I suggest you re-balance the power in your relationship by calling him on his butter. He needs to accept you as you are and trust that you want the best for him and your relationship. He needs to become able to distinguish irrelevant from important, harmless from threatening.

It is not you, but him who has to work on his unrealistic expectations, if he wants a long-lasting relationship. Like you, I prefer people who stand up to me, just better be right if they do so 🙂.

You appear intelligent, well meaning and honest to me.

And a perfectionist....which is a good thing for your career, if you pursue one. Not so good in your close relationships. You probably prefer a man who will challenge you, make you work harder to improve yourself.

That's fine, just remember to relax as well and re-negotiate your position in the relationship from time to time. Don't give up your power and put him on a pedestal, he's probably more flawed than you anyway 🙂.

You did well that you challenged him too...Is he "worn out" now? No, he just lost a bit of his power over you. He'll be fine and perhaps show you more respect in the future.

I don't know what you do in your lab, but I'm testing several hypotheses in mine. "Testing" is completely impartial to the outcome, it's searching for the truth.

On the other hand, "manipulation" implies forcing a desired outcome.

no you dont know what I do in my 'chem lab'. I run test on chemicals not people. testing some one in a relationship is a manipulative move that only people with low self esteem do. i could have sworn that is what the op posted. testing in relationships, this has nothing to do with what I do in my chem lab. WTF kind of analogy is that.

bottom line if you have to 'test' or manipulate a person to get what you want. you obviously have some control issues.

and obviously you didnt get what I meant. testing is a form of manipulation. how hard is it to put that together. and be my guess not to waste your time on me, you wont be missed.
