Coincidence is my best guess.
Reasons it happens to young guys are often psychological(anxiety, depression, self-doubt)OR occurs under the influence of booze according to some--whiskey d'ick as they say.
Although in the case of MUCH older men, advanced age can cause recurring impotence like menopause creates dryness problems for certain women.

Same thing happened to me on one occasion, years ago with a guy my age--19 at the time. When combined with the ADHD medication he was on, drinking liquor meant sexual activity was impossible. So he never used both in the same day from there on out, and problem solved.

I was thinking back to when this ever happened to me. Besides the cap getting whiskey dick this used to happen a lot with my gem ex. I don't think it was a gem thing tho. I usually get pretty wet down there, but I was always kinda dry with him and it was hard for him to stay hard with me. I wasn't as attracted to him as I've been to other guys. I think he sensed my lesser lust for him...maybe.

That and the condom made it hard for him to stay wet.
