They said, "Eruopa, here we come". What? I'm already there. 🙂

Here a few Q&As from YouTube comments:

Q: the area around Jupiter is HIGHLY radioactive... wouldn't the water on Europa be highly radioactive ?
A: The thick layer of ice and water should help block a lot of the radiation... A few meter of ice will block any amount of radiation.

Q: why not orbit Europa? why get limited with flybys, not enough ??V?
A1: Delta-V isn't the only reason, I think the other is that the probe will be exposed to far less radiation on this flight plan vs Europan Orbit.
A2: Think of it this way. You are fighting Jupiter's massive gravity to put yourself into orbit with an object that is less massive than our moon. To be captured you would need a lot of extra thrust, not just d/v. Its better to just let Jupiter take you where it wills.

The instruments they are planning to use:

1. Plasma Instrument for Magnetic Sounding (PIMS)
This instrument works in conjunction with a magnetometer and is key to determining Europa's ice shell thickness, ocean depth, and salinity by correcting the magnetic induction signal for plasma currents around Europa.

2. Interior Characterization of Europa using Magnetometry (ICEMAG)-- principal investigator Dr. Carol Raymond of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, California.
This magnetometer will measure the magnetic field near Europa and — in conjunction with the PIMS instrument — infer the location, thickness and salinity of Europa's subsurface ocean using multi-frequency electromagnetic sounding.

3. Mapping Imaging Spectrometer for Europa (MISE)-- principal investigator Dr. Diana Blaney of JPL.
This instrument will probe the composition of Europa, identifying and mapping the distributions of organics, salts, acid hydrates, water ice phases, and other materials to determine the habitability of Europa's ocean.

4. Europa Imaging System (EIS) -- principal investigator Dr. Elizabeth Turtle of APL.
The wide and narrow angle cameras on this instrument will map most of Europa at 50 meter (164 foot) resolution, and will provide images of areas of Europa's surface at up to 100 times higher resolution.

5. Radar for Europa Assessment and Sounding: Ocean to Near-surface (REASON)
This dual-frequency ice penetrating radar instrument is designed to characterize and sound Europa's icy crust from the near-surface to the ocean, revealing the hidden structure of Europa's ice shell and potential water within.

6. Europa Thermal Emission Imaging System (E-THEMIS)
This "heat detector" will provide high spatial resolution, multi-spectral thermal imaging of Europa to help detect active sites, such as potential vents erupting plumes of water into space.

7. MAss SPectrometer for Planetary EXploration/Europa (MASPEX)
This instrument will determine the composition of the surface and subsurface ocean by measuring Europa's extremely tenuous atmosphere and any surface material ejected into space.

8. Ultraviolet Spectrograph/Europa (UVS)
This instrument will adopt the same technique used by the Hubble Space Telescope to detect the likely presence of water plumes erupting from Europa's surface. UVS will be able to detect small plumes and will provide valuable data about the composition and dynamics of the moon's rarefied atmosphe

Wait, will we leave under the thick ice? Europa has no atmosphere? Jupiter is 2000 times further from the Sun than the Earth? And that district is highly radioactive?

Did they leave the cooperation with ESA and want to research alone?

What if the aliens under ice don't like our noses?

I was wondering about that...why go there? until we can change a planet to support frail humans we would be better off building space stations and live in those. Like star trek 😄

I must have picked up on your wavelength, Wynter lol..I swear I didn't even read this before I posted.

How often does Europa get mentioned on the same day 🙂

oops. I thought it was Don Quixote.

BTW aren't we sagies somewhat of a Don Quixote?
At least by googling I came to this site: http://www.zodiac-astrology.com/sagittarius.html and they say:
Archetypes for Sagittarius:
The Preacher, the Pilgrim, the Adventurer, the Don Quixote, the Man of letters, the Fool

wut? da ful?
