So we all know now that social media shows us clickbait that is very personalized. For example, I get a lot of ragebait about how unfair things are. Maybe everyone gets a variation of this. Or maybe everyone gets the same thing.
My issue with this is that everyone with a phone is their hand is talking about a different topic but expecting others to understand what they are saying without context. And that scares me because I always wonder what to do if I say something people don’t understand, or worse, what if I am not understanding people because of that and I am too afraid to ask why they are mentioning these things.
The reason I am saying this is because I see a lot of posts, well from a different site that has comments from people who are clearly not seeing the original content from the position of the one who started it and it replying from their own thoughts. I know this predates social media but I think it has made it stronger by making everyone think they should have an opinion on everything even when people clearly need guidance not judgement. And that makes me sad. Because a lot the clickbait is about judgement of one kind or another. And don’t get me started on the “she was kind to a man she didn’t know was related something something” because that is a form of judgement itself.
It really turned into quite a rant, but I wanted to say that I think that online is trying to tell you what to do what to do but not really trying to support us. And that makes me sad. And it makes me sadder that it’s so addicting, doomscrolling.
