he said he's not big on gifts and is kind of going through some depression/personal problems, but always makes time for me so that should say alot?

If it was something sentimental, I might want it back..
Otherwise just let it go..

And an Indian giver is someone who gives something but wants it/takes it back lol.
I don't get where the term came from, really, I don't see Indians asking for things to be given back. Lol
