Do Scorpios Ever Look Back

I met this Scorpio using an dating app (we're gay); he has moved back to his hometown after being away for several years. He initially contacted me while he was in town interviewing for jobs and searching for an apartment. We couldn't get together then, but when he returned (about 3 weeks after initial contact; and after texting every day), we went on a date. There was a lot of chemistry, very fluid conversation, same life goals. We went on a second date, and it was the same.

But sometime after the second date, he went on a date with someone else, who gave him more intense feelings. And after two weeks of being distant, he finally told me he met someone else and that he had the feelings he felt with his ex--feelings he never thought he would ever feel before--with this new guy. I feel like I have been cast aside for someone who was newer and shinier (I think he met him on an app, also). He shared a ton of personal details, told his family about me, and basically shared the same sentiment toward me that he's now sharing toward this new guy.

He wanted to remain friends, said I was a great guy, and I was hilarious. I cut him off and haven't heard from him since. In the back of my mind, I still feel like I could build a life with him; even though, I'm doing my own thing. We were never in a relationship, but I do feel a mental bond.

I've never been around Scorpios too often. I'm a Gemini, so I'm looking for any kind of guidance or insight.
