That was first thing she said at the very beginning of my third visit. "you don't respect me".

At the beginning of my first visit with her, I warned her that she might
want to commit suicide before we were done.

At the end of my second visit, all she could ask was "How do you cope?".

After she made the remark she made, I told that she does NOT "demand" an elder to respect her.
I stood up, blew that joint and walked out on her.

The only reason why I thought to visit in the first place was because rabbit was seeing one.
It sounded like a good idea at the time.

At that moment, I just figured this is going nowhere. 2 visits and all I got was "how do you cope?"
and "you don't respect me!".

That just doesn't bode well with me.

It doesn't sound likely for someone to just glance at you and go "you don't respect me".

What is the backstory here? What was said in that session?

She might have taken offense at your warning of her committing suicide. To me that would sound patronizing and it would imply I don't do my job right if you think I would get emotional and kill myself since I probably deal with pretty fucked up shit every day when listening to people's issues. But then she didn't tell you you don't respect her in the second session, but the third.

Something obviously came across as demeaning to her. Did you approach the sessions with an open mentality? Maybe you made a joke that didn't go well?

Sounds weird for someone to come right up out of the blue going "you don't respect me". Especially someone who probably heard a lot of twisted shit in their career.

I've been seeing a shrink since I was 5. They even put me in a study, behind a glass wall in a toy room. I remember everything and I knew there intentions at a young age.
I'm 24 now, I feel deep hate for them.
It hasn't helped, I've helped myself grow.

All they do is open my locked closet and than all the moths come out. I'm engulfed in my darkness from my past and I have a hard time moving on again.
I don't do shrinks...

I saw a shrink when I was a kid, too.
He tried to hypnotize me, once. I laughed so hard, my eyes watered.

I was late.

She wanted me to be there on time. I told her at the beginning that I couldn't
make any promises that I could always make it on time. I have to drive 25 miles to see
her at the Indian clinic. If I have to drive 25 miles, and I have to meet her before noon,
then, it's only fair that she compromises and cut me some slack if I am late.

that's like teachers who are miserable and have to fail all of their kids because they suck at the job of teaching.

i wonder why the hell some people get into certain professions when they don't intend to do the job right. ridiculous.

The impression I had was that this woman was either immature for this choice of occupation and/or she
harbored some anti-male pro-female sentiments beneath the surface. This is where the "you don't respect me!" remark comes out of. The truth of the matter is, she was NOT respecting her elder who
had already advised her of the situation. This is supposed to be a professional counseling session. Not a date. I'm certainly not losing any sleep at all over this. I've lived 45 years without her "help", so.. you know, no skin off my nose.

Ok. Now it makes sense.

I take appointments seriously and get there on time. I have run late but I don't have expectations from the doctor or whomever I am seeing to still see me. I see it as corteous of them if they do but I don't think they owe me in any way. I feel bad when I am running late because I feel I am messing their schedule up.

It's not really fair to compromise if you have a schedule drawn up and people are late. What would be fair is finding someone nearer, where you won't be late.

You have to see where she comes from on this too. At the end of the day it's conflicting schedules so it was a poor match. Nothing lost here.

Her comment has nothing to do with "harboring anti-male pro-female sentiments or being immature. If you see it that way, it's better you chose not to continue either way.

I visited my boyfriend's shrink once, she was one of these types of woman. She didn't like me, I am pretty independent, but made clear my disdain for the that kind of "modern pro-woman, down with everyone" else stance. She later on went to tell my boyfriend that she did not think we would last. I then repeated my long given advice to him that he find a male shrink. Not even because I didn't like her, I didn't. But her specialty was with Homosexual, and Transgender youth, due to my boyfriends younger brother being trans. I didn't think she had the well roundness to help a heterosexual man, sitting in a session with her surely proved that to me.

I think in order for shrink to help you, you need to be a certain type of person.

Therapies will work for some and will not work for others.

I was forced to see a shrink, didn't really help me at all.

She is just a stranger asking you stupid ass questions. You answer them honestly, and she takes notes on a clipboard, and after 4 sessions you decide whether you want to go back or not.

That's just it. After three sessions, she did what I knew she would do.
To answer this and few others:
Like I said, earlier in this thread, I told her that she might want to commit suicide before we
were done. Suicide, in the sense, as it turned out, that she DID pull the "respect" card. She disrespected the fact that I couldn't promise her that I would be there on time, at the beginning of the first session. The sessions were 1 hour long and I was only late by 10, 15 and 20 minutes, and
had to cancel one session.
She didn't take me seriously, didn't offer me any advice but asked how I coped and "you don't respect me".
This is US Government health care, in all it's glory. I don't even have a stable primary doctor. They change doctors more often than their underwear.
It's really bad.

You sound very entitled and disrespectful. Almost as though you dont take the therapy seriously and now its showing in how you're treating this shrink.

I think you should do her favor and find someone closer to you. And maybe find a male shrink since you have such a bias. You say she comes off like anti-male, pro-female, and immature. The fact that you would use those specific phases leads me to believe that you infact are anti-female and probably dont think she, as a woman, is capable of doing any good. Couple that with the fact that you have you told her that she would want to kill herself, which is very insulting and demeaning to someone of her profession (all things considered ), as well as you feeling entitled to 'slack' because you live 25 miles away blah blah blah and are pretty much are blatantly showing disregard for her schedule as a doctor... you are sending her all the signals of a person that not only doesn't respect her but also doesnt take her seriously. Like i said earlier, find another shrink. She probably deals with enough bullshit and doesn't need yours.

it matters if that person is invested into their patients and wants to go the full hour or whatever the timeframe. in that situation, you are messing up their schedules.

if it doesn't matter for them and they could do..only 40 mins of that session and not have problems with it, i agree with you.

both mindsets should be respected no matter who is paying whom.

No, he wouldn't, because the services provided to the OP were paid for by the US Government.
No bill was, is being, nor will be sent to me.
Why? Because I am a registered American Indian and am covered under certain laws that
concern the first citizens.

Before you, or anyone else, think that being American Indian means we get a lot of free stuff, I must
forewarn that that popular assumption is quite false and simply isn't so.

Also, the medical services which are available, are not easily obtainable for many tribal people.
For example, for many American Indians suffering from heart problems, they may have to travel 300 miles to visit their cardiologist. Whereas others can obtain affordable care nearby.
Many Indian hospitals have been reduced to "clinics". The patients are treated more like cattle
than human beings, to answer those assuming ignorant youth and non-US citizens, abroad, in this thread. - The US Government continues to actively engage in covert genocide of the American Indian.
"Kill the Indian, save the man". But the American Indian is not alone. Other races, including the white race, are all targeted. Healthcare interdiction is but one weapon in the government's arsenal.
