Scorpions fluoresce under ultraviolet light due to compounds in their exoskeleton. This glowing effect helps them detect UV radiation and may also serve as a defense mechanism. The fluorescence is unique to scorpions and is used by researchers to locate them easily in the wild.
Getting stung is no fun!
Early systemic effects include:
1) Sweating
2) Pallor (paleness of skin)
3) Tachypnea ( fast breathing )
4) tachycardia (fast heart beat)
5) hypertension (heightened blood pressure)
6) salivation (uncontrolled saliva production) with frothy sputum
7) respiratory wheezing
8) stridor (high pitch respiration sound)
9) blurred vision
10)roving eye movement
11)oculogyric crisis (cannot control eye movement)
12)slurred speech
13)dysphagia (cannot swallow properly)
14)pharyngeal spasm (cannot control much of the mouth)
15)drowsiness
Remain calm, because all of the above symptoms are aggravated by panic.
Advanced symptoms are:
1) muscle twitching (myoclonus?)
2) motor hyperactivity
3) incoordination (ataxia?)
4) increased muscle tone
5) Opisthotonos (spasm causing extreme hyperextension of body, bent over backwards)
6) over-sensitive or undersensitive muscle reflex
7) Seizure like symptoms
8) Chest pain
9) vomitting
10)gastric distension (feeling of fullness)
11)diarrhea
12)abdominal cramps
13)temperature dysregulation (abnormally high or low temperature)
14)pulmonary oedema
None of the above are psychological. They require immediate medical attention.
Late symptoms are:
1) Altered sensorium (changed sensory perception)
2) cyanosis (turns purple)
3) hypotension (low blood pressure)
4) bradycardia (slow heart rate)
5) incontinence
6) seizure
7) respiratory and cardiac failure
8) paresis - slight to complete paralysis
9) Altered Electrocardiograph (ECG for heart action potential)
10)coma
Dead victim are shown
1) to have diffuse internal bleeding (haemorrhage)
2) passive congestion
3) fatty necrosis
3) myocarditis.
Scorpions that act dead and look dead - even squished - are oftentimes not dead at all, and touching said scorpion can result in another sting.
Scorpions are believed to be descendants of the ancient Giant Water Scorpion, which were scorpions who were most adapted to water rather than land, and were the size of human toddlers.
Scorpions have existed since the Silurian period, 420-450 million years ago.
The size of an adult scorpion typically ranges from half an inch to 8 inches.
Almost half of a scorpion's prey is other scorpions. Sometimes even a small scorpion will attack a larger scorpion, and eat it. Most of the time the reverse is true.
Sometimes the female scorpion eats her mate.
Scorpions have been found to survive radiation from French nuclear weapons.
Scorpions exhibit the uncommon trait amongst arthropods of the maternal instinct. But, after a time, will sometimes mistakenly eat their young.
The earliest Scorpions from the Silurian period possess gills.
Once scorpions have invaded your home, it is extremely difficult to get rid of them unless you squish them on sight. They prefer the dark and any sort of crack or crevice. They are also extremely resistant to all pesticides. In order to guarantee that your home will not be invaded by scorpions, you must get rid of your entire landscape, remove all rocks, illuminate all dark areas and try not to have any wood anywhere.
Young scorpions are more aggressive and likely to attack than older scorpions. The average lifespan of a scorpion is anywhere from 2 years to 8 years, but I read on some website of a reported 30-year-old scorpion. They can also die within weeks of their birth.
Scorpions are most vulnerable when they are molting. They are most susceptible to infection and attack by predators at this time.
Very interesting!
When we were on our motorcycle trip last summer, there was a biker there that had a bright yellow-green bike with Scorpian's mounted all over the tank.

Love the sting.
there's a thin line
between love and hate.
you can get over a the sting of the scorpio.
Not if it is poisonous and it kills you!
f 'em...ugly little bugs...step on 'em
kill 'em, before they kill you.
it's the only way.
hi james I'm new on here. i'm an aquarius , with aquarius moon, venus mars and rising sign in sagitarius. woow eh. scorpios never again
Parallax, you crack me up.
The differences between falling in love and being stung by a scorpion:
- You can get over falling in love
- Getting stung by a scorpion hurts, ouch. But falling in love is all pleasure, baby...even when we sting in the bedroom, just for kicks
- If you get to the hospital quick enough, you probably won't die from a scorpion's sting. But once you've fallen in love with a Scorpio, it's very difficult to find a cure.
😛 Cheesy joke time is over now. 🙂
Yes, falling in love is a pleasure, it's only the falling out of it that stings.
I've never heard of a Stinger, but now I definitely want to try one, because the creme de menthe sounds delish. I've never tried brandy before, though. I enjoy most alcohols though (on occasion of course) so I'm sure I'd like it. lol.
And I'm up for a re-match any time, just for the hell of it.
Thought it was interesting.*post*
How do you know your an eagle?I just think the actual scorpions are interesting insects, but yeah never came across anything to determine what stage scorp you are.Where'd you go?
That red X box is sexy. Thank you for posting that.

😉
Bullsh-t.
But what if your a scorpio who's overanalyzes everything even feelings?Whether this is a good time to disagree or am I leaping if I do this, stuff along those lines. He he I feel like a freakin virgo half the time and there isn't any virgo in the emotions department either, got 4 elsewhere but not in the main componates.Oh yeah,if you want to avoid being genarlized here for every single thing a evil scorp man has done, don't try to apply reason and commonplace situations to some of these post,it's a big kick me sign and/or scares off other users by telling them something about them is a negative from thier scorp rising. The virgo, aries and cancer boards are the most for really light hearted chit chatting, right now.
That wasn't a judgement virgogotime,it was just a warning from my own experiance w/ some of the people here. You haven't logged in for two days and previously been everyday you've been logged in.I told someone w/ scorpio rising a no grey area in relationships was a bad trait of scorpios.

All scorpions "fluoresce" under ultraviolet light. That picture is a scorpion photographed under a blacklight.
