I would like to say this to you about this situation but first let me say I am please to read your openess and your willingness to ask for help.
People who realize a major drasctic change in there life 99.9% of the time do what is called a "knee-jerk reaction", meaning they react by instinct, instead reacting with knowledge. If she has reacted like this it because of one or two reasons:
A) She was shocked into reality about her sexuality.
B) She is homophobic.
People explore teritories over the phone and internet, that they would not explore in person. The letter may have been to real.
The only other thing it could have been is her husband got the letter first and caused a major stink.
