So, some of y’all may know I’m in PRE-nursing school right now. When I first started I was excited. I like helping people and taking care of them. I was also excited about having a career where I could sleep in and work nights.

However, as the days go by I’m starting to get bored of this major too. They're about to start interviewing us to pick who gets accepted into the nursing program and I don’t even know what I’m going to tell the interviewers when they ask why I want to be a nurse and what skills I have to offer.

At this point all I want is a job to keep me busy while my boyfriend is at work. That’s all.

I got to get out of this nursing thing. But I need a fallback plan so my parents don’t kill me or themselves (my dad had his heart set on me building my own financial empire like my sister is).

The two fallback options I’m exploring right now are pharmacy tech or nail technician. Maybe hair styling, but I’m scared to go into that field due to the volatility of women if you mess up their hair 👀

What do y’all think? Could y’all see me doing nails/hair, or distributing pills more?

How much do y’all know about either of these career fields?

The reason I got out of nursing was for selfish reasons and from other professionals I know, if that’s how you feel and what it comes down to then it won’t reward you (their opinion when understanding my view).

Have you ever met a retired nurse? Ive never met a retired nurse, they typically work right into old age and injuries. This wasn’t the life I envisioned. Also the level of demand on a nurse is intense, long hours and tons of internal politics.

A lot of nurses become disheartened by the pay systems and insurance companies and all the bullshit that goes with that.

Essentially it is a fall back plan but you do have to continuously update your education. So if you choose to go through with it and move onto something else, ensure you continue to take your course updates as the years go by so that you can keep your experience valid and certified.

I don’t want to be a nurse no more. My aunt is one; she loves it because she has a flexible af schedule and she’s making a lot of money. But it took her a long time to get to the top where she is.

I just don’t see myself doing it anymore.

What career would you advise I go into?

I like making people look pretty, but I know there’s not much money in that unless you’re exceptionally good.

I also like taking care of people, but I don’t have the time to just go to school the rest of my life waiting to ge a career in healthcare. I need to graduate/enter the workforce by 2020.

If you can finish your nursing education and get licensed, and you *really* love helping people, look at elder care. There are some really great assisted living centers with really caring staff out there. Job security if you're good (our aging population is only getting bigger), and the pay at the nicer places is good.

Of the other 2 you mentioned, go pharmacy tech or even get a pharmacy degree. Or go into pharma sales.

I know two nurses who are married and work in a small town. The husband is an ER nurse and the wife works in the maternity unit. They love their work schedule. They work long hours and then take one week off. Sometimes they even work two weeks of long hours and then two weeks off to travel. They are constantly traveling; in fact, right now they are in Hawaii. Since it’s a small town, the hospital isn’t that busy. The husband shops for the best prices on traveling gear (big on outdoors stuff) during his downtime, when nothin is happening in the ER lol. It pays well, between the two of them they make $ 200k a year.

I don’t want to make more money than my boyfriend/husband, and I want to work a schedule similar to his (8AM-5PM) so we can have maximum time together after works.

Stop feeding this puts! He thinks if he made up his life here - everyone does.

And to your question - all nurses I know love their jobs and getting laid well.

Pharmacists are paid well but to me it’s boring to count pills...

Beautician would be good for you but to find a good place and establish clientele - might take years!

Medical Field is growing crazily. I would say stay in and get to a nursing school - when you done - you’ll have tons of different opportunities having medical background. My friend is phlebotomist - own hours, good pay...nothing she can complain about. Even working in rehabilitation centers - piece of cake.

Here is the machine, there is how you do it...walk away for coffee break!

Good luck babe!

Pharma sales - great advice!

Tons of money and nobody works their assess off! Dressed to kill and smile and bullshit...I don’t know why they get laid so well. Honestly! Lol

I agree– beautician is hard to establish clientele :-/

I didn’t think of phlebotomy! Will definitely do more research on that.

Thanks for the support sugar 😘😘

My boyfriend wants me on the same work schedule as him. In regards to salary, he said he just wants me to be financially independent if something happens to him. I sort of interpret that as making the bare minimum, especially since his salary is twice the average income per capita where we live. Idk.
