Well this is what the Governor of Oregon says:

Governor Kate Brown Introduces Framework for Reopening Oregon

(Portland, OR) — Governor Kate Brown today introduced her framework for Reopening Oregon: a plan to restart public life and business while maintaining healthy Oregon communities. The framework sets specific prerequisites based on science, which Oregon communities must meet to begin reopening, and also outlines the actions Oregon must take to move forward.

“We all want to get back to work and return to normal life as quickly as possible,” said Governor Brown. “But the truth is: the best path forward is a cautious one — a path that proceeds gradually, carefully, and incrementally. A path that relies on science and facts to determine each step forward."

In order to begin reopening communities, Oregon must first slow the growth of COVID-19, as well as acquire adequate personal protective equipment to protect health care workers and first responders. Once those prerequisites are met, Oregon can begin to reopen by:

Ramping up COVID-19 testing capacity in every region of Oregon

Developing robust contact tracing systems to track and contain COVID-19 cases

Establishing a quarantine and isolation program for new cases

“While we have to be careful, we also cannot stand still,” said Governor Brown. “The shuttering of an economy at this scale has never happened before. Likewise, the reopening of a shuttered economy of this scale has never happened before.

“As we prepare in the months ahead to get Oregon back to work, we must remember the importance of doing so in a smart and deliberate fashion that keeps us moving forward instead of sending us backward.”

Guess it’s gonna be awhile...

C-SPAN "Open Phones" question of the day.

Is the US ready to reopen the country? Everyone back at work.. Everyone back on public transportation.. Everyone back in the restaurants and bars..

If not, what is it going to take to reopen?

Do you have Sagittarius in your chart?

Outer planets.

I don't agree with her on everything but she's handling this very well even despite what the Eastern Red half believes.

Though if I were here I would have shut down state traffic between Idaho and Oregon during that Easter nonsense.

I think she’s been handling this well. I don’t agree with lots of things she does! But, I’m happy to be in a state at the moment where the governor has this attitude. Hard to close between states I’d say.. but Easter was crazy how everyone seemed to forget we are in a crisis 🤦‍♀️

I am torn on this subject in large due to certain ordinance issued by our governor that dify logic & reason which in turn made me seriously question not only the competence of our leadership but also the agenda behind it all!

I do think IF the economy is to reopen, it should be done incrementally & under strict guidelines!

Edit to say...you can go buy liquor at an corner here but you are banned from buying gardening products such as seeds, seedlings & soil as well as clothing coz you know....liquor is essential but clothing oneself isn't! GTFO

Wear your masks and wash the hands

What about your clothes?

Who doesn’t wash their clothes?

Are you stripping as soon as you walk into you home? No hugging the kids. No petting the dogs. No sitting on the couch. Etc..

In my line of work and the crap I’m exposed to, absolutely. That’s what the laundry room/mud room is for.

I don’t even wash my work clothes with theirs

Good on you.

Now how do we get everyone to follow the same guidelines?

That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it

My thoughts are that people are going to start breaking the rules pretty soon. Hell, they already are in parts of the state. People are being micromanaged in some areas and it might do more harm than good

Hey Supes, curious what you mean by micromanaged? I know here some people were being dumbasses and gathering in groups. Some of the parks have been closed because of it, making it suck for the responsible people. I imagine Houston is similar?

So what is your suggestion?

Just open up the country and let what happens, hapen?

The majority of the states are. At least during the work week and can stay home on weekends. The few states with heavy population density (where the mass issues are) should stay closed and not be allowed to leave or anyone in.

People arent staying home. They arent. They're getting bored and wandering around spreading germs palaces they normally wouldnt have time to be. It's a vacation for a large portion of the population. At least in the workplace they are accounted for, precautions can be mandated and enforced... for 8-10 hours a day.

Farmers are beginning to plow under crops euthanize livestock, pouring millions of gallons of milk out.. we're coming to the point where the economic consequences could kill more people than the virus could. This isnt the beginning of some utopian society where everything becomes magically free. People need money for medications, for food, for shelter (please god, do not use the forbearance program for your mortgage, you're going to get screwed).

So restrict the rights of densely populated areas and let the rural roam free.

Yes, if you want to look at it through that dramatic of a lens. Same way when Flordia is forced to evacuate during hurricanes, the rest of the country isnt required to..... even if that same hurricane could cause heavy storm damage in other states.. face the problems where the problems actually are..

It's a suggestion at least. That's more than I've gotten from most people.

Do people know proper handwashing? How to use gloves and masks appropriately? Social distancing? Honest about feeling sick?

Before my work shut down people were still only spending maaaaybe 5 seconds to wash their hands and especially the boomers and silent gen were walking out without looking at the sink.

I had to actually yell at my dad and show him actual scientific evidence of what happens when you dont spend the proper time to wash and also washing frequently.

It's like teaching a fucking toddler with some people.

This ^^^^^. And this is why even though I work for an essential business that enacted split shifts in March, I'm working remotely from home. Not taking the risk of being in an office using common areas such as entrance doors, kitchens and bathrooms with people that might not practice good hygiene.

Hellllllll to the no.

I dunno about your area but now it's the workforce dropping like flies over here even if the curve has been flattened.

Few more months.

My heart goes out to those in the medical community for all you all do to help save lives!

My heart goes out to the grocery store workers as well as other people in service jobs that make less money and have fewer protections should they get sick.

One outbreak in the rural areas will collapse whatever healthcare system they had that is already barely functioning. That’s why they will have in infinitely worse once it gets there.

You have a very skewed view of the midwest.. the midwest has the majority of the best hospitals in the country.
