Ask him, straight.

Don't waste time dropping hints. Men generally don't get hints and VirGuys in particular have so much self-doubt that they'll analyze every little signal until they've found a way to talk themselves out of any belief whatsoever that you might be interested. Basically we don't want to male a fool of ourselves, so no matter how obvious you are we won't act even if there's so much as 0.0000000001% of doubt.

So, just tell it how it is.
