I'm sorry but you have absolutely nothing here. When he says he just wants his "friend" to help him take his mind off things he means it. If you're doing this "thing" you're doing with him you should think that way as well. Besides you both are married and you're not even in the same state. You didn't just become "platonic" after a while--you two never had sex or anything besides phone calls, texts, etc, correct? People can say anything in email over the phone, etc. He never promised you anything--he's not the bad guy here! You two should leave each other alone and move on. You don't have a relationship.
