I think Ascendant is more about your overall appearance and the impression you give to others when they first meet you. If I meet you in person and see the whole steady penetrating gaze in action, I might immediately guess your ascendant.
Oh and there are plenty of cancer risings who are not round-faced and overweight. Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, just to name a few. Of course they're celebrities with fitness trainers, nutritionists, dietitians, etc., still...

This is old but I still can't tell if I am Libra or Scorp Asc either. I think personality wise I relate more to the Libra Asc but in a previous post everyone commented that I looked more Scorpio Rising. On my chart. all the houses are relatively the same size and my Asc falls in Libra but then in my first house I have Pluto in Scorpio in the 1st and 2nd house.
