So I'm not referring to Ophiucus. This is more of a thought experiment. There's been a few different ideas for calendar reform, including creating a year where all months were 28 days long and there would be an additional 13th month in the middle of the year named "Sol" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Fixed_Calendar).

So if we were to imagine that Western astrologers came up with a 13th sign for Sol, what would that sign be? There's no right or wrong answer. This is basically a chance to make up your own sign. So the questions are:

Name of the Sign?

Element of the Sign?

Sign Ruler?

Sign Quality (Fixed, Mutable, Cardinal)?

Signs Characteristics?

Additional Information?

I'll write my answer later, but curious what you all throw out there. Also pretend as if we live in a world where 13 months makes sense with our calendar year. Don't worry about how the calendar would make sense in our world presently. This is all make believe.

If we were to make a new sign, might as well as make 3 at a time because there needs to be a cardinal/fixed/mutable sign for every element.
Yeha go for it! According to that wacky calendar there is one day assigned for a Leap Day and another designed for New Year Day. Maybe use those two days?
Give me a day to think about this, I can't answer this in one split second as I have to try and figure out personalities of this constellation, we can't just make it up randomly.

Yep, I had to give it some thought too.

So my scenario is that earth is a planet that takes 13 months to revolve around our sun, instead of 12. Each month is also a solid 30 days (instead of the 28 proposed above) except for Sol which has only 28 days. Sol also falls between July and August in this scenario. Also everyone's birthdays and signs are still the same as they are now. Due to an irregular orbit, the plant dips slightly so in the middle of the year astrologers can observe the constellation Hydra.

Hydra falls somewhere between Cancer and Leo. In mythology the hydra was a four headed serpent that Heracles (Hercules) needed to battle as one of his labors. The hydra is crafty, being able to regrow heads that have been dismembered.

In the zodiac Hydra is represented by four serpents. Each serpent belongs to a different element (fire, earth, air, and water). Hydra natives are born between Sol 1st-28th. Those born from Sol 1st-7th are fire sign Hydras, those born Sol 8th-14th are earth sign Hydras, those born Sol 15th-21st are air sign Hydras, and those born on Sol 22nd-28th are water sign Hydras.

Hydra personalities are an interesting mix of Aries-Taurus, Taurus-Gemini, Gemini-Cancer, and Cancer-Aries. A fire sign Hydra is like Aries, fun loving and impulsive, but they also have some earth near them, so they finish what they start always. They are extremely passionate but not easily angered (a blend of fire and earth). An earth sign Hydra can seem stubborn like Taurus but they simply prefer to move slowly. They do this because they are generally battling between making multiple decisions similar to an air sign. They seem like they are lazy and never get anything done, but they always seem to get what they need somehow (a blend of earth and air).

An air sign Hydra is curious and quick witted like Gemini, but also can be extremely emotional. They can seem manic to some and child like to others. They know this though and tend to keep to themselves (a blend of air and water). Lastly a water sign Hydra is intuitive and can be moody like Cancer. They can also have quick bursts of rage or elation, neither of which lasts long. They prefer to be more mellow when they can be (a blend of water and fire).

Aside from their diversity, Hydras all seem to be a confusing bunch, generally getting their four heads tied in a knot over nothing. They can often seem confused themselves, generally taking alternate routes to solve problems. They can seem air headed, usually having their heads in the clouds. It not that they are dumb, they just think at their own pace, looking for patterns and loopholes. They are a bit more sporadic than the other signs and can be hard to peg as a result. They are generally knowledgeable about very specific topics that interest them and usually make great pioneers in any field. They are also adept at preserving ideas and traditions. They are best suited to be scholars, scribes, historians, librarians, academics, lab scientists, philosophers, or any job that requires in depth observation.

They are not humanitarians. In fact they often see other people as a nuisance who get in their way. They also seem to think they have everything in control, even when they don't. They can be hard to get close to in intimate situations, generally needing their partners to figuratively dominate them in some way since the can be somewhat oblivious.

Oddly enough their partner may need to "tame" them by embarrassing them. This will catch the Hydra's attention immediately. It's almost as if their love must be earned through conflict. In actuality their love comes through respect since they seem to imprint on their partner. If you can serve their purposes, they will assist you. They are neither followers or leaders, but supportive if you're on the same page. The light side of Hydra is intelligent, crafty, brave, and lighthearted. The dark side is spiteful, arrogant, duplicitous, and inconsistent.

As a mutable sign, they tend to accentuate whatever placements are in a person's chart. Ruled by both the Sun and the Moon, Hydra people have both a masculine and feminine quality. As a result they can seem someone asexual or even androgynous. Even still they have a certain allure to them that exudes through their confidence.
