Aries man Gemini woman
I met Victoria when she was a waitress at my first job where I was a waiter. Her long red hair and infectious laugh were the first things I noticed. Since I was shy and had never dated someone who did first express interest in me, I may have overshot when I pretended my car wouldn't start.
It turned out her birthday was the same days as two of my best friends on Flag Day of all days. This made her a Gemini. As an Aries, I was aware we weren't supposed to be compatible. I didn't care. We fought constantly, but in a strong healthy way. She was never on time, always had a million things going on, and never was afraid to tell everyone how she felt; three things that were the complete opposite of my nature.
I learned to adapt out of love. She was the life of the party and no matter how many ways I tried to push my way into controlling the situation, she'd never allowed it. Victoria would sidestep control with the poetry of a matador. Finally, I gave up and just became happy with our love.
She was adventurous and absent of fear. One time she told me, "I will die young. I dreamt it and I believe it." I laughed and said, "Hell, I die all the time in my dreams." When we met I was uptight and quiet. There was no laughing in a crowded room. I was always on time if not early, and I respected the opinions of others; regardless of how ignorant and repugnant they may be.
One night as I was ready to make her my wife I booked her favorite local band at a club and waited for her arrival. I invited everyone I could, including her parents. Two hours past and she was just as always late. Maybe she found a stray dog or a homeless lady who needed to talk about the CIA implanting chips in people. I was anxious, but had learned to wait. As I saw her parents, I rejoiced because she would likely soon arrive.
I patted the ring in my pocket and readied myself for her father's permission. "Howard, I have something important to ask." I blurted out. "Craig, there's been an accident. Victoria's dead." He countered like a prize fighter who threw a haymaker to an undefended opponent.
At the age of 22, I lost the first person I ever really loved. Someone I loved so much that in a year we had dissolved part of who I was and left a completely new person its place. There is only so much I can hear now before I speak my opinion, I try to fill as much space with laughter as I can, and avoid being on time at all costs. It's the best and only tribute I
