Sleep Paralysis?

What Is Sleep Paralysis and Is It Related to Astrology

Sleep paralysis is a temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up, often accompanied by hallucinations or a feeling of presence. It is a common sleep phenomenon and not linked to astrology. Factors like stress, sleep habits, and sleep disorders are typical causes, not astrological signs or influences.

I know its not astrologically related in any sense BUT I was curious to see if any of my fellow geminians have experienced "sleep paralysis"?

I stumbled across it today while I was googling something along the lines of feeling a "presence" near you or in your room while you sleep and then all these websites about sleep paralysis came up so I started reading and have read probably hundreds of comments (since i've been doing that all day and havent done any work!) and a lot of people seem to experience it.. its more intense for others and some people only feel the "paralytic" stage of it and never hallucinate to the point where they see a dark figure sitting on top of them or standing near them or hear "evil" voices etc...

Last night and it happens to me often... when im falling asleep (and I usually sleep on my back or side), I *FEEL* like there is a "presence" in my room with me, and the more I ignore it and tell myself in my mind that its nothing, the closer I *feel* it gets to the point where I have to summon the balls to open one eye and look around the room and theres nothing there (obviously). After a bit of me telling myself to ignore it and trying to make myself think of happy things it goes away and thats how I stumbled upon the sleep paralysis.

Anyone familiar—

I use a nightlight.

And lately I have to drink a little to help fall asleep. Not sure about sleep paralysis but insomnia is a Gem trait.

A friend of mine had an experience a few years ago (about 2 years now). She was in bed sleeping and out of no where she felt this force tying her down to her bed, her chest was being pushed in and she couldnt move, her whole body was paralyzed and she didnt know what was going on, she said she felt like there was something evil in her room so she started praying and completely couldnt move, she said she opened her eyes and at the edge of her bed, at her door she saw a black figure dressed in a coat and she said it "looked" like the devil and it was saying something to her and then she kept praying and praying and eventually she snapped out of it...

When she told me it scared the beejesus out of me lol but now after researching about this sleep paralysis.. I realised thats what happened to her and it wasnt an "evil" force trying to posess her although thats what she felt.

Anyone with knowledge of this... do you think there is some sort of spiritual thing behind it OR its plainly your brain playing tricks with you while your in this state and your nerve fear kicking in and making you hallucinate these things (as this is what research about sleep paralysis says is happening) but like everyone knows, there is always a conflict between whats spiritual and medical/science and science always tries to explain a "spiritual" occurance.

A lot of people who have experience sleep paralysis say they have seen the black figure in a long coat.. its most times a man and the man says something to them like "dont try and fight me" etc just scary shit along those lines..or they see black sillouhettes hovering around the room.. A comment I read which made me laugh but kind of scared me was from a girl who experience this sleep paralysis and during her state she was able to open her eyes and saw a black figure on her window with red eyes starring at her. LOL.

Yea GM, I read that aparently if you learn to control the sleep paralysis... you an astro project from your body and its a really "rewarding" experience. But that comes after you learn to overcome the fear and the hallucinations of demons trying to posess you.

You can also achieve this through meditation

This is actually a perfectly normal phenomena. Our brain switches off the actual motor neuron tracks when we go to sleep. This prevents us from getting up and running around during our sleep. Sleep walking is actually the abnormal variety of this condition.

What you are describing is a semi-sleep state. You are awake enough to have a conscious awareness of the external world (the world outside your own head), but not awake enough that your motor tracts are functional. It can indeed be an eerie, confusing, and frightening state to be in. It is not an abnormal, or unusual state to be in.

If you focus and drive yourself to do the actual physical effort to move anything, this state is broken. But, you have to actually move something, not just think about moving it. This seems like a curious distinction, but there is a very clear distinction once you experience it once or twice.

I personally find this state to be rather pleasant. The sense of total relaxation is quite remarkable, and from my perspective it is a very interesting sensation. But, as I say, I am aware of the condition and what it means, I am therefore not overly disturbed when it occurs.

I do the projection thing all the time. All of these things are ordinary, it's just that we're not normally consciously aware of them, and that's the freaky part. Our society is not one that cultivates dream skills.

You're fortunate to be so in-tune. This is a normal human ability that has been all but lost in Western culture...so much so that we have forgotten that it's even possible!

My husband dreams about lots of things before they happen. Most are very ordinary happenings, such as conversations with random people we meet on the street (sometimes, he leans over and whispers to me the words the stranger is about to say just before he says them). Other times, he recognizes a situation he's dreamed about, remembers it turns out badly, and is able to change his behavior to avoid serious trouble (such as hospitalization and jail!)

I used to be a member of a dream studies group. We would experiment with lucid dreaming and would do things like send messages into other members' dreams as well as meet up in predetermined dream locations and have shared experiences. Once, again, normal stuff for cultures that embrace dreaming, but odd to the Western mind.

YES! I used to get the sleep paralysis with some demon standing over me while I sleep all the time! When I was younger I used to be terrified to even close my eyes because it was so scary. In my late 20's I decided i'd had enough and since I have always been able to kind of "control my dreams" I started doing that when I had the paralysis/demon. I literally left my body and fought the demon (why does it sound so weird writing it lol). I fought hard and dirty and didn't stop until I had ripped its head off. No joke, never had another demon show since then.

I remember seeing a woman when I was young and having sleep paralysis. She looked about 20-something, was wearing a black dress, and was walking around the foot of my bed.

Well I survived last night lol. Although I did *FEEL* something lurking near me I ignored it and said to myself its all part of the "falling asleep" phase.

Glad to here other people have experienced it. Definately want to look into it more and think of it logically if I ever get into sleep paralysis rather than freak out and think its the devil trying to pull me out of bed! 😐

I feel it sometimes during the day as well... but mainly at night but then again i always ignored it but recently my room mate moved out.. on sat and sunday and last night were the first 2 nights i've really spent completely on my own so i think im just scarying myself.

Although, ive never experience this sleep paralysis where I cant move.

I always just *feel* a presense near me when im falling asleep. A few years ago I used to feel pressure on my knees like something was sitting on them but it was never scary. I had my tarot cards read and the lady told me (without me mentioning anything) that it was mum sitting on my knees watching over me while I slept and my mum had passed away when I was 14.. Hrrmmm

Think there's another thread about this somewhere floating around, maybe in metaphysical.

I experience sleep paralysis now & then. It's a natural phenomenon that can't necessarily be explained. Japan has recently started a study on it.

I've seen things too... I saw a big eye blinking right next to me on on my blanket. It was large & translucent, almost like a psychedelic kind of visualization. I've seen stuff out my window. The scariest is the dark figure that looms over you, coming closer & closer.

The girl that lived in a room next to me used to see a little girl.

Shamans consider this phenomenon a sort of entry into another dimension, like a momentary dimensional blend, and consider what you see as 'information'.

From my experience, it's only creepy if you freak out, that's when your mind plays tricks on you & you start to see the creepy stuff. Lately, when I can feel it coming on, I'm more relaxed...and I think to myself, shit, this better be good! I doze off & wake up in a lucid dream, which has been a lot of fun.

Lucid Dreaming is being conscious in your dream, having an adept awareness where you may even have dream control.

Some can fly. I've fallen through the sky and bended air into fireballs. Yeaaah.

It's lots of fun really. 🙂

I did some Google searches, and it looks like the dark woman is pretty common during sleep paralysis. "Feeling a presence" is almost always reported.

Oh btw... I googled (try to say that fast) lucid dreams and sleep paralysis and then astral projection which led me to
"Etheric Projection", which was also referred to as "Real time Projection" but I'm just curious to know, if any of you have experienced this "Etheric P.." because apparently it's in contrast to Astral Projection.

It's just a ton of information out there, and I don't even know where to start.

Okay seriously, now I feel like I'm sitting in a kindergartner class. :/

Kindi glass agreed!!! lol now whos gonna be our teacher? :p

Science tries to understand things like the supernatural by putting it into a box, which is very dangerous. How the hell you gonna control some crazy ass demon lady wearin black and shit? My crazy ass would tell her to strip buck necked if she dared visited me in my sleep! She'd be like: "Dat Nigga's cwazy!! Let his ass sleep!" 😛

Okay, you weirdos, I think I've got it:

"Astral projection" means your energy body is projecting onto a nonmaterial (astral) plane.

"Etheric Projection" means your energy body is projecting onto the material plane.

So, for instance, if you're leaving your physical body and walking around your house, you're experiencing etheric projection.

U R funny!

Now that I understand the difference, I can say I've done both. On one occassion, I was doing etheric projection and met a man in my living room. He was sitting on the couch beside my sleeping roommate and looked up sharply at me. My roommate later told me that the description I gave matched that of his deceased father! Another time, I was projecting around a very old house I was visiting and met a group of people hanging out in the kitchen. They gave me info about the house, including the year it was built (checked out the info later, and the date was correct).

Hey Norcalman! You know the last time that I can remember a Gem/Gem union was George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush. We all know how that turned out. They literally took over the world, and still run it! 😛

Ah, god...they were both Gems (hides face in shame)? Has anyone seen Dave Chapelle's skit about the celebrity racial draft? Maybe we can do something similar and trade Dubya and Babs to another sun sign!

Oh c'mon Whims! You know damn well if me and you got married we'd do the same damn thing. 😉

We just might! I dated a Gem man for 4 years, and I swear sometimes it did feel like we were about to take over the world. I rejected his proposal, so we'll never know!
