I started using Cetaphil for sensitive skin and I like it as a general cleanser. Then in the shower I have Shea Moistures African black soap exfoliating face wash. I use an ACV and water toner. And just plain coconut oil moisturizer if Iām not planning to wear makeup of any kind. Really good results so far. I have started using a retinol thing too once a day which also seems to work. I have a salicylic acid spot treatment by like Only Tomatoes or something that works wonder too.click to expand

Scary ~ a while back my Health Practitioner advised me not to use shower gel so I use soap now.
Researchers have found dangerous levels of mercury in skin lightening and anti-aging creams; they've linked chemicals in hair dyes and straighteners to breast and uterine cancer; they've traced fragrances in soaps and shampoos to poor semen quality and fertility issues

I have really sensitive skin so have always had to be careful with which soaps and shampoos I use. I even can only tolerate certain laundry detergent, I cant wash my clothes at laundry mats where other people use their products so have to have my own washer and dryer in my home. . I don't use stuff with perfumes or certain ingredients like dyes. . I only use perfumes for special occasions and test which ones I can use before buying. I don't even trust essential oils on my skin.click to expand

Honestly it's like that with most products. Imo natural things are best, and even that can be risky when dealing with commercial stores. Like I had a patch of dry skin that wouldn't go away. It was there for like a year. I didn't go to a doctor, and didn't use weird products. I literally decided to try lemon juice mixed with coconut oil, and it completely went away within month. I was applying one to two times a day. I found that remedy in an alchemy book I bought from a bookstore years back. So imo natural remedies and herbs are not only cheap, but actually work.

Aloe Vera is a great natural product, I
use it not only for a moisturizer but also for itchy skin (anywhere on the body) and burns

I'm like 90% sure it was from "The Herbal Apothecary" by JJ Pursell, but I could be wrong. I have over a dozen alchemy books, and my house is literally a chaotic clutter lol! Wether that was the book with the remedy or not, I 100% recommend looking into that book for natural medicine and tonics. It also gives in depth description on what different herbs and flowers do, and why they are medicinal.click to expand

Which oils make you flare up?
Are you blending them with a carrier oil?
I always mixed them with something yes. I don't know specifically which ones made me flare up. But I'd often use frankincense, rose hip, rosemary, lavender.. the worst was tea tree but I figured that one out very quickly.click to expand

I usually avoid the high-street or commercial brands. Probably less than half of essential oil vendors sell pure, unadulterated essential oils.

Benzene is in a lot of stuff actually. Most consumed products is soda š„¤.
If youāre looking to rid yourself of all chemicals that are heavily linked to cancer, youāre going to have to start from the products you use all the way to products you consume.
Majority of cancer cells in your body can be entirely removed by your body naturally, your body does it daily. Itās the compounding of cells that becomes the problem.

Lavender and Rose are very gentle and can be applied neat. Iām an aromatherapist and never heard of any adverse affects with those Oils

I wouldn't even risk it now, the thing is I used them for years before I read I shouldn't use them with a skin condition. I wouldn't start messing with my routine now though, I'm in a good place with my skin (for the most part). I still use them for other things though, around the house etc. although I tried to use eucalyptus a couple months back in the bath because I was stuffy and I flared up all over my legs š Now I just sniff it out the bottle like a druggy šclick to expand

Maybe if you listed the oils and their brand names, we could chime in.
I could yeah...
The ones I have now are miaroma and Tisserand. Idk what I used to use but probably them ones because I get them from the health food stores.
Tisserand isn't as good as it once was (many, many years ago) and is simply exploiting its brand name.
I haven't tried miaroma but, going by the packaging, it's one of those generic health food store variants.
There's a common misconception that anything that's labelled as an essential oil is kosher. In many cases, it's not - many aren't pure, while many others are but consist of low-grade oils. In other words, quality and purity are important factors most consumers are ignorant about, and the companies know this and resort to exploitative business practices.
So, what oils have you been using? Lavender? Peppermint? Tea Tree?
Atlantic aromatics, that's one I always used to use, I just googled it. I could remember the bottle but didn't know the brand name. That's an Irish brand though. So which ones do you use then? And how do you know they're good?
It was a good while back when I used them on my skin, but I would use different ones. Tea tree I 100% can not be near š The rest I just piled under essential oils and left it at that. Yeah I used lavender, pretty sure I had peppermint as well. I used frankincense a lot, because it's apparently good for break outs.
I canāt comment on Atlantic Aromatics, as I have never dealt with this company.
However, there was a ten year period where I sampled lots of one specific essential oil from resellers all over the world, with deviations in country of origin, distillation method, organic/non-organic, etc. In total, I sampled over 80 different extracts of the same raw material and, in the end, roughly 25% of them I considered decent (another 25% were okay or not to my tastes, while the rest were dreck). That should give you some idea of how buying quality essential oils can be a minefield.
Peppermint, lavender and frankincense shouldnāt have adverse effects on your skin, though, unless you have a rare skin type thatās highly sensitive.

Plant Therapy doesn't have much presence in the UK. However, the 'girlie beauty care life style ' marketing angle on the website is off-putting.click to expand

Iām allergic to a common ingredient in skin care products, but never found out what it was. I got the worst break outs of contact dermatitis from ānatural brandsā that use allegedly organic ingredients - like Aveeno and Eos. I was on steroid cream for a week using a simple moisturizer and lip balm from those store brands.
I am currently dealing with another instance of contact dermatitis that comes this time of year for me in Ohio - have no idea what kind of flora is in this region thatās different from other states Iāve lived, but it absolutely wrecks my skin and allergies this time of year up here.
My dermatologist told me to use cetaphil or cerave. I get the contact dermatitis from Cetaphil too so thatās a no-go, but cerave and somehow Garnier works for me.
Having sensitive skin while trying to find the right product line to age gracefully and stay moisturized, while being massively allergic to some common, extremely popular ingredient is an expensive nightmare.

A study found that acne products that contain Benzoyl Peroxide such as proactive, Clinique, and Clearasil significantly exceeded the u.s food and drug administration guidelines.
If you are using these products or any other products that have this ingredient on your face please stop.
As a skincare specialist I never recommend these products anyway but I know a lot of people use them.
