Well, here's another perspective. One of my co-workers saved and bought a legitimate, not fake, Louis Vuitton handbag. She went to the store. Paid for her stuff. Went to her apartment. There was a man in the store who FOLLOWED her to her apartment, waited for her to get out of her car and tried to snatch the purse from her.

As fiesty as she is, she said no, got drug around the parking lot because she wouldn't let go, made a lot of noise, someone called the police, as they were pulling up he ran off. She kept the hand bag, but it's broken now and she's still out all that money. She recognized it was the guy from the store.

The cops told her it was because of her expensive hand bag and he thought she would have a lot of money, etc. So, the hand bag made her a target.

So, who are you trying to impress with this stuff? I agree with whomever said self esteem issues.
It sets you up as a target for attack.

And if you have to have that kind of stuff to run in certain circles, then you are running in a shallow circle and are better off without those kind of people.

thats just nonsense lol. I work hard and play hard. If i worked my ass of for my bonus check, im saving some and spending the rest. I see not a thing wrong with treating yourself to the luxuries of life.

Plus, it feels good to stunt on the sales person when i walk in wearing sweats, leggings, and some beat old navy flip flops and buy a $ 400 bag.

Feels fuckin great.

I mean the same can be said for people who buy Tide when they can buy a cheaper brand. Some thing i am not willing to skimp on. Others, yes, i will bargain shop, make it myself, or wait ions till it goes on sale.

I stopped telling people what to do with their money a long time ago. If someone wants to always have the latest iphone; have at it. I someone wants to spend half their paycheck on marley; so be it. If someone wants to live out doublewide in a trailer park yet drive a range rover; who am i to judge.

depends on the circle you run in and it's as simple as that.

you can't run in high social circles without designer items. people will just perceive you as poor or low class.

I didn't start the thread to tell people what to do with their money. Hope you don't think that.

I'm just curious why it was important to some people to have that stuff.

And I wanted to let everyone be aware that they may become a target because of it.

im a quality over quantity kind of person. So id rather buy a quality bag that will last me for years than something that will breaks at the seams in weeks.

if your worried about a bag drawing attention, what about a car? dont live in fear 🙂

This thread reminds me of the 4-year-old little boy (Taegrin Morris) that was dragged alongside his mother's car by hijackers. They forced the mom out of the car & she went to the passenger's door to unlock the little boy's car-seat, but they sped off before she was even done & he was left hanging from the side of the car. He died. His mom remembered him screaming "Mommy, help me". She now blames her posh car.

I'm sure robbing someone with the genuine article it worth much more than just robbing some guy who just stumled out of the seediest pub lol.

I'm not saying otherwise, but just as the robber was probably surprised that she didn't live that life style , someone stumbling out of the seediest pub might have a stack on their person or live that life style low profile.

If someone's robbing you anyway, they probably don't care toooo much of what they're getting. Not saying that any of this is an "all cases" deal, but is always a possibility.

If I were a robber, I'd pick a target that looked like it would be a good payoff.

At the end of the day anyone can be a walking lick. If you just got paid and left the check cashing, walking lick. If you got the new J's on, walking lick. If you got $ 300 worth of weave on your head, walking lick. new Iphone, walking lick. Beat headphone, walking lick.

shit i could go on and on.

The same thing without the name/label on it would cost a lot less. Sure, the quality is better, but it's the name that runs the cost up.

Just make sure the quality and design is what you really want, rather than just because it has a name on it.

I know some people that would buy a dog-ugly puke green purse, because it had a certain name. Just so they could say they had one and impress everyone. Crazy!!!

It's true, I was busing it home in a green triforce tee and I was robbed because the robber's mouse broke and wanted a Razor. It's a tough life being targeted as a nerd.

I'll never understand designer labels when it comes to clothes or handbags, but in the same way I just have no fucking idea what's so appealing about a god damn hand bag.

So I apply my love for tech and gadgets and called it even.

It really depends on the label. I know it's not cool to be a brand whore but it is what it is for a reason. You buy from the right house - you've got something that'll last you years, decades maybe. Way better than buying mass-produced garbage that you'll throw out next year and end up spending even more over your lifetime replacing it over and over again.

SOME luxury labels though - are pure garbage living off hype, noise and sometimes even name alone.

Oh, I agree!

You make a good point-- I was shopping for a watch this past holiday, and determined that watches

should only be purchased if the company is known for making watches-- and nothing else.

The so-called designer watches by purse-makers were shoddy, at best... disgraceful.

However

In theory-- and in the (very) few instances where brands and their designers have not sold out--

Its very disrespectful to wear knock offs.
Its disrepectful to designers, and brand history.
You could love the brand, but you don't respect the work which goes into keeping it top of the line.
A fan of the brand wouldn't wear knock offs, because they like and to a certain degree they normally understand what's happening with the brand.
It qualify someone who admires what a certain brand does...Knock offs shows the complete OPPOSITE of admiration with what the brand does.
Better off in following the brand movement without buying its threads, than buying its knock-off threads.
Knock-Offs is equivalent to Catfishing, IMHO.

KVZZZZZMIR11DON hits home.

I have to agree.

Unfortunately, the world just doesn't seem to work that way, anymore. :/

Curious, are designer purses, expensive clothing, overly expensive cars really worth it? I'm not talking about value or quality, of course better quality is more expensive. But does anyone really NEED a $ 500 purse? Why would anyone spend that much money for something like that?

The "mask" syndrome, the "look at me" syndrome, the "I'm better than you" syndrome, the "I really hate myself and am insecure" syndrome.

That's simply what luxury items are.., fake tits, fake face, fake tummy tuck, bleached assholes, whatever is on the outside that can be altered to COVER UP what's lacking inside. People who are lost and cannot live in reality. You are either fake or you are real. There's no in between, no grey area.

So ask yourselves...are you fake or are you real? If you feel the "need" to compete with those who do the above, you're even worse off than they are.
