Hello, hello...._—

For the past couple of months I've been working out and getting fit. Not for anyone else but me. So I wanted to make this thread to see who else is on the workout ban wagon. It doesn't matter the reasons why, just share your story, workout routines, meal plans and let us all know how you continue staying motivated.

For me it's essentially my progress that keeps me going. I take it one week at a time with small goals and make sure they are realistic. If you keep it realistic lets say 1-2 lbs a week.
No matter how much you lose a week be proud of what ever progress you make because that puts you closer to your goal and no matter what the numbers no matter how small, means your on your way to body greatness.

Hope you all get something out of this thread, hopefully you all will and it will keep all of us on track.

btw nothing gets a lady's body sexier than some weight lifting. get off of that elliptical and get under the squat rack!! seriously though, girls wont get huge bulgy muscles, it will just help lose fat and get toned and sexy. lifting + high protein, low carb diet for the ladies = sexy. rant of the day lol

just as important as a work out is regular bowel movement.

set a routine. wake up everyday at 7 or 8. then poo at around 9 or 10 like clockwork. eat high fibre foods and cereal.

I remember i went through a whole year without working out. busy with work and school, i was still lean and cut.

sorry but this is just incorrect. meal timing is irrelevant. dont get all your info from muscle magazines sponsored by supplement companies pushing their product. but thats not to say that having a routine is bad. routines are everything, but biologically it doesnt matter as long as you have a healthy digestive system

All I can say is don't be too goal-oriented because in the end that's like going on a diet, you won't be able to keep it up forever. I've seen it so many times, people who have a goal to lose a certain amount of weight, but either never get there, or once they do, they gain all the weight back again because they lack motivtion. They don't think of it as a life style , they see it as something temporary.

Working out should be a part of your everyday (or every other day) routine, like going to work. If you incorperate it properly into your life you should have no problem sticking to it.

Lifting weight combined with some basic cardio workout has been my routine for as long as I can remember. Sometimes every other day, sometimes once a week, depending on how busy I am. Atm I'm thinking about getting back to martial arts, but I have no idea how I will fit it into my schedule (I guess I could always cut down on some DXP time, lol ). Plus they don't have any good clubs where I live.

love this thread!! yesss!! working out has become my whole life the past year. i did it for myself, mostly because i wanted to be happier in general. also wanted to lose about 20 pounds. growing up i was always very athletic, but once i hit college i let my active life slow down. in hindsight i see that neglect caused me to gain a lot of anxiety (as gemini rising i carry a lot of energy so exercise is super good for my state of mind). i do a lot of everything because i get bored easily. but i do love cardio and see it as therapy in a way. i love weight lifting, hiking, dancing, and yoga. i eat a lot of chicken and veggies, oatmeal, i juice fruit & veggies. that said, i also cheat regularly on eating. anyway.. i just love fitness so seeing this made me smile 😄 i reached my goal about a month ago (as far as weight loss goes) but it feels so good and i feel so much happier in general. its def a life style for me.

I know; I had that same fear that I would get bulky, then I found out we don't mKe enough testosterone to get big like a guy. Since I started lifting five times a week I see better results then I did when I was just doing cardio. On too of that I love to feel strong and push my body as well.
Of course eating contributes. People have it wrong when they think about dieting. You still need to eat ; your body needs that fuel to keep energized. Changing your eating habits, doesn't mean starve yourself; eat means make better eating choices.

Anyone has any meal plans they go by? And how much do you eat throughout the day?

Eating is the most important part of getting and staying fit. You still can lose weight while on a healthy diet.

What did you eat when you weren't working out for that whole year?

I'm not on the "ban wagon" it's basically my life style . I grew up playing sports, athletic type. Once I got into high school I started playing football so I was required to lift weights. I'm naturally thin and have a fast metabolism so losing weight never has been a issue. I stay fit because eating healthy feels good and so does lifting and staying active with sports. As for diet I can eat a surplus of calories so it doesn't matter what. I eat lots of steak, sweet potatoes, fish, lean proteins veggies, oats, cottage cheese etc. As for routine I do basically compound lifts, squats, deadlifts, pullups, rows etc. 3x a week whatever feels good that day. I'm now down to less because my body responds to better if i have more recovery time.

Keep up the steady progress!

Cheers.

Do you break each muscle group? For example ; on Mondays I do chest and triceps, then on Tuesdays I do legs.

I pretty much eat anything I want; just small potions, I drink a shit load of water; water is very important.
I also eat veggies and fruits. I do drink protein shacks, but that's about it.
No fast food for me.

Also do you have an cheat day?

To me many make the mistake of setting high and unrealistic goals and expect to lose it all in one month. I take it one say at a time; and one week at a time.
It is a life style ; and one should I say approach it little by little. If your not a workout buff, or never lifted weights. Take it slow and pace yourself. Every little bit helps.
Everyone has to find their own motivation and ask why they want to change their life around for the better.

But I say take it one day at a time. If you fall of or don't lose pounds one week yet still see your losing inches be proud of that too.
Many worry to much about the numbers as well. I try not to obsess over that. But every now and then I want to see where am at. I keep log as well; it works for me to keep on track.

Keeping the weight of has do with how you take it off. If you change your eating habits, even of you don't work out you will keep it off. Quick fixes doesn't work and if it does it won't last long. It takes dedication and sweat to lose weight and keep it off.
That's how I've always approached working out and I've kept it off for six years. But it's routine for me already. Meaning it's apart of my life.

Yes and don't let the scale discourage you when you start weight training... The scale may not go down as you build muscle.. Muscle weighs more than fat... Anyone know a killer regiment for love handles... I have a little problem there and cannot make them go away! I work out several times a week and weight train at least 3x... And need good ideas to up my protein... I use supplements and diet but I don't think I get enough protein daily!!!

I don't know if I get enough protein either....lol.

But I eat eggs; oatmeal; chicken breast; greens, avocado; and some more stuff. I do protein shakes and bars when I'm on the go; but I try not to over do the bars. I eat brown rice as well, beans, you can go online and find out how mix protein you need.

People have to be realistic... with there own goals...

I personally have played a lot of sports all my life... it was not until later that I realized what you put in your body has such a big impact.

Realistically balanced diet with not to many calories... you need to have less calories then you burn... rather you work out or not...

Also water... is important... and also wide spectrum of vits.

Oddly enough this kinda health can effect your spiritual growth as well... as drug can open and close chakras...

It is amazing what someone can do if they just maintain a healthy diet and walk 5 miles a day... Personally I do alot of yoga... and part of a real being dedicated to yoga is actually a healthy diet.

I don't take supplements; I do notice that I'm happier when I eat right; sluggish when I don't.
I say about 80% is good intake and healthy food in. I wouldn't say less in take of carbs cause your body needs fuel; now if you cut out a little complex carbs then it understandable and replace it with simple carbs you can so that.
Also it's size; what a 250 pound guy whose 6'7 needs the carbs for full, he can't eat like a person who is like me 5'1 and 140 lbs.
people say cut this cut that and honestly when I stopped cutting is when I slimmed down and toned up even more. A balanced diet is very important like you mentioned but to maintain weight you don't need to cut anything carbs; now to lose yes and it shouldn't be no more the. 500 hundred( depending on how much you consume, cause I burn more cause I lift)and you still should in take and then burn.
I still don't cut; I eat, and workout. And I'm still losing the weight; besides losing it to fast is risky cause you will put on more.

Eat; workout; and don't obsess over numbers or counting carbs.

Hi Sagi,

I used to be unhealthy and I started gaining weight in late highschool. McDonald's used to have these buy one get one free coupons, so my friend and I became regular customers. LOL. When I became of legal age to buy alcohol, I was at the liquor store every week. I also smoked. I gained a lot of weight and the worse part was my body was slowly giving up on me. Emotionally, physically and mentally, being unhealthy affected me.

To be fit, you have to watch what put in your body. It takes discipline and dedication.

I exercise at least 4x a week at least. 45 mins to an hour in the morning and then at night. I love to jog, minimum 15 minutes and then 30 minutes using my medicine ball. Stability ball is a great equipment to have too, love doing inner thigh workout with it. Love youtubing different types of workout, anything that I can simply do at home.

I love food, but I can no longer indulge on junk foods because my body hates it. Yes once in awhile I will have my pizza, ice cream or cheesecake. That's once a month. Normally I will have whole grains and lots of vegetables in every meal. I drink plenty of water, even for breakfast because I am not really a fan of coffee.

Basically I try to stay active as much as possible. I prefer to take the stairs rather than taking the elevator/escalator and I walk as much as I can instead of going by car or public transit.

It's not so much about looking

Book: Abs diet for men (there is an abs diet for woman as well)
www.menshealth.com - forums

i'd like to clear up some rumors...

Macros - Proteins, Carbs, Fats (essential for personal goals)

food timing/ frequency does not matter AT ALL - total calories/macros at the end of the day does.
Depending on if you are trying to cut/maintain/gain. What is your goal? Figure out your activity level/body weight/gender/height (there is a specific formula for this forgot the name though) can find it online, or in the sources listed about.

adjust your cals/macros accordingly to your plan/goal +/- 500 calls depending on if you are trying to cut/gain and how fast you are trying to do so.
ABS are made in the kitchen, not the gym. 65% diet vs 35% fitness.

Foods: me personally.. i eat anything and everything, IDC.
But.. if you're serious eat "clean" and look into the 12 POWER FOODS from the "Abs Diet" book. There is also great recipes.

I agree with majority of what you've said @twinkie, nice response.

I'm no expert, but do enjoy fitness/nutrition. I'm actually a runner and I do cardio 7 days a week along with calisthenics.
anyway, just my two cents.
if there is any incorrect/faulty info, please correct me as it's been a while since i've done research and some numbers may be off.

eat clean - train mean - stay lean. lol

Good Morning everyone,

Hope everyone has a early start for the day. I wanted to talk about protein and protien shakes today; as well as foods that contain protein in them.

How many protien shakes do you drink?

What other sources of protien do you take?

Hope ya'll share and have a wonderful day.

I will also start posting motivation quotes to keep all those of you motivated. Please share any workout quotes especially you favorites_??

Good morning.

i've transitioned my work outs to PM during the colder seasons...hard waking up at 5AM when it's roughly 40 degrees outside lol
Honestly never got into protein shakes, they may work for some but I prefer eating natural protein dense foods pre/post work out and in general.
Protein dense foods: natty peanuty buter (pre), swiss cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, lean chicken breast, turkey, milk (regular not non fat), whole eggs including yolk.

many times i've been asking what i'm training for in the gym. My response. "life"

Love at the gym, good motivator.
Never with the trainer, you have to pay.
Slow? I need to shed yesterday.
A lifetime or a moment, hard to say.

o.k. not enough money to pay
look around find someone who is there a lot
and in good shape ask for some help
most people who work out a lot both male and female
will help you. and not hit on you like i would
they can show you how to work different parts of your body
and recommend books that will help you on food choises and on working out
i know you can do this you are a very strong person wish i could help more but i'm not near you so its very hard to do.
good luck

My lunch today after the gym was;?
Ahi Tuna Steaks, seasoned with Garlic and Herbs, with seasoned steamed broccolie.
I baked the Ahi Tuna in the oven covered with aluminum foil, then uncovered it when it was done and let it cook for five more minutes.
The broccolie I steam and check it so it won't over cook since I like them crispy, and I had a glass of water.

You can paid your Steaks with a salad as well.

That's my lunch for today_??_

Awesome!
I lift as well, to get definition....lol.
I go heavy, if I do dumbbell incline press for my chest, I usually do 3 sets of 25lbs, sometimes I will for 1st set 25, 2nd set 20lbs, 3rd set 17lbs, reps- 20-15-12.

So it all depends on my workout, I always go heavier on legs.

But I'm not a light weight when I lift; but I'm not a heavy hitter either since I've seen woman lift heavier then me.

To all warm ups, how long to you warm up for before you begin your lifting workout and afterwards how much cardio do you do?

Like you said, it has to be a life style , not a momentary obsession just to lose some weight. Moderation is key with everything except love perhaps, hmm, not sure.

hmm, well I dunno, let's try it and see! 😄

How do we start?

By making eachother sweat!

Lol. Yeah see those are the definition exercises I want to stay away from. Instead of doing 25lbs, I'm more inclined to start @ 40 or 50 and work my way up.

I do warm ups, but nothing complicated. Strectch my elbows, arms, and thighs. Run in place. Simple stuff.

If I don't feel the burn in my chest area that pisses me off because that's my area of focus. I may have to resort to my enemy which is doing pushups, but I must feel that burn in order to feel like I did something. Even after the whole workout, lol.

See but your a guy; you want size. I want to get toned, plus I'm a girl, your a guy. So the weights r going to differ.
And I don't want to lose my assets; I like them a lot. But I still want it tight_—
