What kind of tree is it? And did they plant it inside or build the house around it?

We planted it, stairs were designed around having a tree there. It’s my favorite non fruiting olive variety, Swan hill.

It looks beautiful. Olive trees are a good choice. Their leaves don't really fall so it will always be pretty. Do you have a glass roof over it for sunlight?

Yes there is a giant glass dome at the very top of the stairs. We are hanging tiny crystally lights at different lengths that will cascade through the branches. Its 3 floors in all.

Cause palms grow fast and olives are slow as fuck. Crane cost included.
