I know you must be extremely upset about your mother about to pass away. I can't imagine the pain you are going through and how frightened she must be. She sounds like she has accepted that she will pass and therefore believe your suggestion to be futile. I would seek therapy as soon as possible because you need someone to talk to. Do you have other family members or perhaps siblings?

My condolences. Notwithstanding your situation, though, it helps to think things through before hitting the "post message" button. Not an easy thing to do when one is under such strain, but the last thing one needs (especially in your case) is regret.

You're caring for someone who is dying. You can't expect them to react reasonably at all times. Some handle their mortality with impressive aplomb, while others struggle - quite understandably - with the reality that everything perceivable and conceivable will end for them much sooner than they imagined.

I lost my father to cancer in May of 2014. He had good days and bad days. Some days he was calm, while other days he lashed out at everyone, sometimes violently. But God bless him, that person wasn't him. It was the disease.

You're upset because you want to help her - to try to make her see reason for her own good. For someone in her situation, however, achieving this is just a bonus, and it's best to treat it as a happy accident rather than an expectation. Summoning up as much compassion as you can, no matter how she behaves, will make this hard road a little easier for the both of you.
